*Presidency Empowers Businesses and Homes in Ibeju-Lekki with Solar Power Systems*
The Presidential Community Engagement Office (South-West), led by the Senior Special Assistant to the President, Moremi Ojudu, has launched the Light-Up Ibeju-Lekki programme, a transformative grassroots energy intervention set to power homes and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the Ibeju-Lekki community.
The initiative, supported by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and executed in partnership with the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, is a key part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. It aims to improve access to clean, reliable, and sustainable energy at the community level by reducing the electricity burden on families and business owners while stimulating economic growth.
Speaking at the launch event, Moremi Ojudu reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to bringing development closer to the people. “We are here today on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to say: we see you, we hear you, and we are with you. This project is not just about solar panels, it’s about real empowerment, homegrown solutions, and shared progress.”
Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, commended the partnership, noting that it aligns with the LGA’s own development priorities. “We are grateful for this federal intervention and proud that Ibeju-Lekki has been chosen as a beneficiary community. This will go a long way in supporting our people and our local economy.”
Engr. Adesoji Oyedeji, who represented NASENI at the event, described the programme as one of many steps the agency is taking to decentralise access to energy and foster innovation through local solutions.
In preparation for the distribution, selected youths from the community were trained in solar panel installation, thereby giving them not only the skills to support the rollout but also creating employment pathways within the same neighbourhoods the project is designed to serve.
With installations now set to begin, the Light-Up Ibeju-Lekki initiative stands as another proof point of the Renewed Hope Agenda in action in delivering practical impact, strengthening communities, and lighting the way toward a more inclusive, empowered future.

A Chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP) in the South West, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has charged the electorate not to vote any party or politician that failed to fulfill electoral promises in the build up to the 2023 election.
Ajadi in a statement on Sunday said that as the country is preparing for the 2027 general election, the electorate should review the various political parties’ promises and what they have done in the.last two years as a guide to their decision in 2027.
He said that during the 2023 general election campaigns, political parties and various candidates promised the electorate good life, but that what is happening in the country has shown that some politicians have made life unbearable for the people that voted them into power.
He said that the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC) among others, promised better life for the people but that the reality is that the people have been turned to beggars and are living miserable life.
Ajadi said in the statement said, “As we are getting set for the 2027 general election, I urge the electorate to review the performances of the political parties and politicians, looking at how far they have fulfilled their promises before casting their votes in 2027.
“Political parties and politicians promised better life for Nigerians, but they have made them worse in the last two years.
“The ruling APC at the centre raised the hope of Nigerians through its Renewed Hope Agenda but people are living hopeless lives because of downfall of the economy.
“The party said the poor would be allowed to breathe but in the last two years, it has painfully suffocated the poor. They can no longer breathe. An average Nigerian is living hopeless life. Worker’s wages cannot sustain simple living.
The removal of subsidy without provision of alternative palliatives and relieve materials have made the petroleum products’ prices beyond the reach of an average Nigerian.
“The multiplier effects of rise in petroleum products’ prices have made Naira’ value to go down.
“It is a shame that Naira’ has fallen in value compare to CFA being used by neighbouring Francophone West Africa countries.
“The government must do something to improve the economy and raise the value of naira as against other currencies of the World.”

The recurring tragedy of building collapse in Lagos once again came under the spotlight today as stakeholders from across Nigeria’s building industry gathered at the University of Lagos for the Professor Leke Oduwaye-Adron Homes Urban Development Dialogue, a high-level forum aimed at addressing regulatory and construction lapses fueling the crisis.
Themed “Recurring Building Collapse in Lagos: The Challenge of Regulatory Oversight and Construction Practices,” the dialogue was organized by the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP), University of Lagos, in collaboration with real estate giant Adron Homes.
Delivering goodwill remarks, the Group Chairman of Adron Group, Sir Aare Adetola Emmanuel King, KOF, issued a strong call for accountability across the building sector. Describing building collapse as a “tragedy that has become far too familiar,” Aare Adetola Emmanuelking emphasized that such disasters are not acts of fate but direct results of human negligence, greed, and systemic failure.
“Buildings do not collapse by accident. They collapse because somewhere along the chain of planning, approval, construction, or supervision, individuals choose to compromise,” he stated firmly”, he stated.
The respected real estate mogul outlined what he termed the three uncompromising actions needed to combat the menace: Verification, Validation, and Control, stressing that all actors within the building industry must be held to the highest standards of competence and ethical responsibility.
The event featured a thought-provoking guest lecture by TPL. (Dr.) Idris Salako FNITP, former Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development. Drawing from his vast experience, Dr. Salako delivered a hard-hitting analysis of the root causes of building collapse in Lagos. He identified critical gaps such as weak enforcement of development control regulations, poor coordination between regulatory agencies, and widespread disregard for approved building plans by some developers.
Dr. Salako further highlighted how political interference, corruption, and the proliferation of quack professionals continue to erode the integrity of the building sector. He stressed the urgent need for capacity building among regulatory bodies, proper training and certification of artisans, and the full digitalization of building approval processes to ensure transparency and efficiency.
The dialogue also featured keynote addresses by TPL. Tunji Odunlami FNITP, Ogun State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, and Professor Ayo Omotayo, Director General, National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru. Both speakers echoed the need for proactive urban planning, robust regulatory frameworks, and collaboration between government, professionals, and private developers to create safer cities.
Other dignitaries in attendance included Tpl. Waheed Kadiri FNITP, PPNITP, Past President, Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (Chairman of the event), Professor Modupe Omirin, Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, UNILAG, Dr. Taofik Salau, Head of Department, DURP, UNILAG, and Dr. S.A. Adeyemi, Chairman, Organizing Committee, among several others.
Participants unanimously called for urgent reforms to curb building failures, emphasizing the need for professionalism, transparency, and stricter enforcement of building regulations.
The dialogue is expected to spark renewed policy debates and strategic actions toward ensuring that Lagos, and indeed Nigeria, builds safe, resilient, and sustainable urban spaces where lives are protected and dreams can thrive.
