Confusion In APC As Mai Mala Buni Allegedly Removed As Chairman

All is not well with the Buhari led All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party has run into fresh murky waters. This is not unconnected to the fact that the  faction of the party has  sacked Mai Mala Buni as Chairman.

Confusion In APC As Mai Mala Buni Allegedly Removed As Chairman

The faction has also attacked President Buhari over his supervision of the party.

Buni, Yobe State Governor, is Chairman, APC Caretaker/Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).

On Monday, a unit within the party, Progressive Youth Movement, announced his replacement.

They named Mustapha Audu as National Caretaker Committee Chairman with immediate effect.

Audu said a National Reconciliation Committee will be formed to reconcile aggrieved members before the February 26, 2021 convention.

He further announced a zoning formula for Positions in the new National Working Committee (NWC).

In a reaction, John Akpan Udoedehe, APC National Secretary dismissed the “felonious activities of the purported group”.

The scribe’s statement said they are unknown to the party, its structure or as a registered support group and therefore non-existent.

“However laughable, the criminal attempt of the purported group to usurp the leadership of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC now bothers on treasonable felony.

“Relevant security bodies must now check and address their unscrupulous activities. The attention the purported group seeks will not be given to them by the party.

“We can only advise that the general public completely disregard them. They are not registered members of the APC and are being used by opposition elements and fifth columnists to cause confusion.

“As widely reported, the successful meeting between the APC leadership, Progressive Governors’ Forum and the President produced February 2022 as the timeframe for the National Convention”, Udoedehe noted.

Covid-19: Ogun tops other states in mass vaccination

Ogun State has been rated the top performing state in the ongoing mass vaccination campaign against Covid-19, a report by the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency ( NPHDA) has indicated.

Coming after Ogun in performance rating included Zamfara, Oyo, Osun and Ekiti states respectively.

This was disclosed by the NPHDB in its recent rating of top five performing states and governors on Tuesday.

The chart, however, indicated the names of the top five governors as a way of alluding the feats to the efforts put in place, with Governor Dapo Abiodun ahead of others.

The chart showed that Ogun has vaccinated 3.30 per cent while other states trail behind.

The ongoing nationwide mass vaccination campaign is targeted towards vaccinating 50% of the population to further help in the drive to curtail the pandemic in Nigeria.

Governor Dapo Abiodun had on November 1 flagged-off the mass vaccination campaign in Ogun State where he gave 60 days ultimatum to unvaccinated residents.

The Abiodun administration had since embarked on aggressive vaccination of residents in various places across the states, including markets, motor Paris, tertiary institutions, among others.

Somorin said that health sector has in the last two years since Governor Abiodun came on board, been on the front burner of the scheme of things in Ogun State, adding that the government will remain committed to making its health sector attractive to all.

He, therefore, urged residents who are still unvaccinated to go out en-masse to take advantage of the ongoing mass vaccination campaign without delay, assuring that the government has put all measures in place for ensure a seamless exercise.

NURTW Boss Advocate For Peace Among Members Across The Nation ….,. Preaches Unity and Safety In Ember Month

    By Ifeoma Ikem

Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa, President, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has embarked on a nationwide sensitization of members to preach peaceful coexistence.

Speaking during his visit to the Lagos Chapter, the National President disclosed that part of his plan on the visit was to restore unity and ensure harmonious relationships among members.

Baruwa said that the union would be working effectively to ensure that all aggrieved members within Lagos sheath their swords and work together for the development of NURTW as well as the commercial nerve centre of the country.

To ensure a united NURTW in Lagos, he noted that the transport union headquarters has concluded plans to bring all aggrieved members including those that were shown the exit doors for contravening Union’s rules back into the fold and to create a one big family in the state.

He stated that , to ensure unity, his leadership would resolve all issues between members and create avenue for those that were formerly holding major posts within the state chapter to resume office while those that have taken over from them will not be remove.

Baruwa explained that rather than ask those already occupying the seat previously held by aggrieved members to vacate, the entire process would be adjusted to accommodate them to return to that level where they were before been asked to leave.

In the light of this reconciliation, Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede former state chairman NURTW Lagos State chapter, and presently Vice president NURTW was restored back as chairman Agege Branch ‘A’, by the president of NURTW Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa.

However, we have also decided to punish by suspending those found to have contravened the rules of the union, involving, Comrade Yinka Hassan, Assistant Secretary and Comrade Ibrahim Yusuf, Financial Secretary, who are suspended until further notice.

“I believe that whenever anyone is punished, after some times, he should be forgiven and ask to return. So that is part of what we are coming to do in the state.

“Truly, the position of those aggrieved members might have been filled but we will address the issue to ensure that everyone return and can feel they have returned to their brothers’ fold as well as work like a one family”.

He stressed that the moves were basically to ensure that the union speaks with one voice and everyone key into the development plans of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s transportation development plan for Lagos State,

The president of NURTW also promise Awards for Governor Babajide Sanwolu, president of NURTW Alhaji Ibikunle Baruwa said NURTW is coming to give Award to Governor,

“The constitution of the union stipulates that the members must work with the government to ensure peaceful coexistence”.

According to him, Lagos remain one of the union’s major chapter with very large unity and members, crisis could arise and further snowball into breakdown of law and order.

The NURTW President stressed that these were part of the message the union leadership had been taking to all states, sensitizing members on the importance of peace and safety on our roads, requiring that everyone should drive carefully, obeying traffic regulations as we approach the Yuletide season.

“Importantly, drivers should not drink before driving neither should they drink on the wheels. They must not violate speed limits and ensure that their vehicles are in conditions at all times.” he stated.

“We are also enlightening our members on the need to be of good conduct particularly as the various polls particularly the 2023 election draws near to ensure that none of our members become tool for violence across the country”

The truth lie, Mohammed cannot kill (Part 1) By Tunde Odesola

The truth lie, Mohammed cannot kill (Part 1) By Tunde Odesola

In light or in darkness, a cockroach is a cockroach; smelly and repulsive. What to do to rid the cockroach of its nuisance? Whack it to death!

The lethargic regime of the retired General Muhammadu Buhari heeded this homily on October 20, 2020, when it crushed to death, like cockroaches, innocent Nigerian youths at the Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos Island.

Since the bloodbath at Lekki over a year ago, the unproductive Buhari regime has been wheeling falsehoods in and out of cosmetic surgery wards, trying all manner of facelifts to beautify deceit. But truth remained missing in the prescribed post-surgery dosage, making Aso Rock’s open wound conscience discharge smelly pus.

But before I attack the cockroaches that crawled out of the latest response from the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on the Lekki Toll Gate massacre, last week, I’ll ask a question: where’s the camcorder discovered by the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, at the scene of the murder of innocent Nigerian youths?

My gut feeling is to treat the Fashola camcorder discovery with the doubt that Nigerians attach to government and its officials, and liken the discovery to the purported discovery of River Niger by Scottish explorer, Mungo Park, in 1795, centuries after indigenes had been living on the banks of the river.

The out-of-the-blue camcorder discovery and the ginger way the left-handed minister wrapped the camcorder with a piece of dark cloth, like a detective from Alagbon, suggests there was an untold event at the toll gate before the minister got there that fateful day – just like there were indigenes living around River Niger long before Mungo got there.

Conversely, the authenticity of Fashola’s action and the possibility of extracting evidence from the camcorder were lost in the black hole of government’s characteristic insensitivity to issues that concern the masses.

It’s only an unfeeling and inconsiderate government that would keep quiet on the content of a camera openly discovered by an ex-Chief of Staff, two-term governor, SAN, minister, and member of the federal cabinet.

In a country, where leaders lead with conscience, and consider the citizenry worthier than cows, there won’t be a criminal silence on the content of the camcorder. Mind you, two weeks ago, Fashola had said he openly handed over the camcorder to Lagos State government officials at the toll gate, insisting that he doesn’t know what has become of the camera.

According to online reports, Fashola also claimed the camcorder was planted by subversive elements. This assertion is the reason why the content of the camcorder should be made public if the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led government of Lagos State wishes to wash its hands clean. Questions beggar answers. Why did the Lagos State government not submit the camcorder to the panel, and why did the panel not mention the camcorder in its report nor call on Fashola to come and testify?

It should be noted that the composition of the retired Justice Doris Okuwobi-led eight-member Lagos State Panel of Inquiry constituted to look at the causes of the Lekki toll gate crises was a child of necessity. If not for the fire consuming Lagos at the time, Sanwo-Olu wouldn’t people the panel with independent-minded and courageous citizens, who never gave two hoots about how Abuja or Alausa feels about the truth they told in the report. I daresay the composition of the panel was to douse the escalating tension eating up Lagos at the time.

Upon the leakage of the panel’s report, Nigeria’s media space went berserk, but the information minister figuratively went underwater like a mighty shark for some days, only for him to suddenly shoot into the air from the deep, twirling to the horror of many, insisting that nobody died at the toll gate.

Alhaji Lai’s latest lie issued forth from the same mouth which claimed in 2018 that it cost government N3.5m monthly to feed detained Shiite leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, even as the same mouth claimed in 2016 that patient Buhari wasn’t sick in London, only for the Daura general to return to the country to say he had never been that sick in his entire life.

The same mouth had also infamously said Boko Haram had been technically defeated only for the terrorist organisation to claim territories in the North-East, and kill soldiers and civilians at will. I’ll restrain from turning on the minister’s tap of misrepresentations.

Reacting to the leaked report, Mohammed quoted a nameless lawyer and a faceless journalist, whom he claimed described the leaked report as disgraceful. If Alhaji Lai was proud of what he was saying, he should have come up with the identities of the unknown persons he copiously quoted in his press statement.

In the aftermath of the massacre, CNN came up with a damning analysis of the CCTV footage from the Lekki toll gate, showing soldiers shooting at the scene and expended live bullet casings, which were traced to the Nigerian military.

After the CNN report, the government went back on its earlier denial that soldiers never had live bullets at the scene, insisting, however, that the live bullets were not shot.

Both the panel and the CNN reports queried the reason behind the ‘panning out of CCTV cameras’ at the scene shortly before the soldiers opened fire on the harmless protesters.

If Mohammed was on the side of the truth and the masses, he should have raised questions as to why the brightly lit toll gate was thrown into darkness shortly before the killer soldiers opened fire on Nigerians whom he swore to serve and protect.

In his sophistry, Mohammed raised a jejune question on why the relatives of the deceased have refused to come out and claim the corpses of the dead.

In a country where the soldiers that killed three policemen and two civilians, who arrested kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Bala aka Wadume, in Taraba State, got a pat on the back, and are today walking free, Mohammed’s poser to the relatives of the dead is akin to telling them to face a moving train.

It’s on record that the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, withdrew the murder charge against the soldiers since June 2020.

With the wave of killings and tension across the country, Mohammed should know that Nigerians have been dehumanised and disenchanted to the extent that they don’t expect anything good from the Buhari regime.

Just a few days ago, a witness, Kamsi Ochuko, who testified at the panel against the Nigerian Army, was allegedly attacked by hoodlums suspected to be sponsored.

One of the victims who survived gunshot wounds, Agbeze Ifeanyi Matthew, a 35-year-old man from Ondo State, testified before the investigative panel and showed his bullet wounds.

He also told UK-based daily, The Guardian, that it was shameful the Federal Government had been denying the shooting of protesters at the toll gate.

He said, “The tollgate lights had never gone off before, but when they turned them all off and we saw people (in uniform) removing the cameras, we became scared.

“The bullet had gone through my back. In the ambulance they were saying I had lost so much blood. The nurse was praying, trying to encourage me to be courageous, saying that I should not lose hope. This was around 1am.

“I was the first person from the tollgate admitted to the ward. Later that morning, there was no more space (in the ward).”

    To be continued next week.

  • Dangote Refinery to Become Highest Employer of Chemical Engineers in Nigeria

Dangote Refinery to Become Highest Employer of Chemical Engineers in Nigeria

and Dangote Refinery to Become Highest Employer of Chemical Engineers in Nigeria*

…Engineers hail the huge scale of the project
The National President of Nigeria Society of Chemical Engineers (NSCh) has revealed that Dangote Oil Refining Company will be the highest employer of chemical engineers in the country when the refinery comes on stream.
The Society’s National President, Engr. Saidu A. Muhammed, disclosed this during the NSCh’s visit/tour of the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical project at Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos at the weekend.
He commended the company for its contribution to energy security in Nigeria.
Engr. Muhammed, who led members of NSCh on a tour of the Dangote 650,000 barrels-per-day refinery project in Lagos, to mark the end of the association’s 51st-anniversary celebration, said the industries in Nigeria have not been able to absorb the over 1,000 engineers yearly from Nigerian Universities.
Muhammed stated, “We, the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, have keenly been watching the progress of the refinery project.
“When completed, the refinery will be the singular largest employer of chemical engineers in the country. Nigerian Universities turn out about 1,000 chemical engineers every year and the avenues for employment have been very scarce.
“The industry has not been able to fully absorb the number of chemical engineers that passed out of the universities years ago.
Some companies within the sector are not running at the optimum level. Therefore, employment is really key.
“However, from the energy security point of view, chemical engineers are always concerned about what can be put in place to guarantee energy security the country. Nigeria is blessed with abundant crude oil, but unfortunately, we are importing petroleum products simply because Nigeria’s own refineries are not utilising their installed capacity”, he said.
“Therefore, when you see a brand new refinery like the Dangote Refinery that has the capacity to meet the petroleum products needs of the country, there is need to celebrate such company”, Muhammed added.
He expressed delight over the size of the project and the level of work that has gone in the construction of the refinery.
“The Dangote Refinery project is very impressive, very big. There is no project of this magnitude right now in this part of the world. We are delighted to see that the project is nearing completion and many things have been done.”
He commended the Dangote Group for its plans to ensure that Nigerian engineers are trained to handle the operation of the refinery plant, which has been acclaimed to be the largest single-train refinery in the world.
“We are most impressed by the numbers of Nigerians that we see within the site working at various sections of the plant. We are glad that Dangote is building this type of project in Nigeria, which is one of the largest in the world,” he said.
Muhammed added that the members of the association are happy to see that Dangote Refinery will contribute significantly to energy security in Africa.
“We are also happy about the refinery’s contribution to energy security in Africa. The refinery is also going to have positive impact on Nigeria’s downstream oil and gas industry.”
Speaking also at the event, the Technical Consultant to the President of Dangote Group, Engr. Babajide Soyode commended the chemical engineers for coming on a tour of the refinery.
According to Soyode, Dangote’s refinery will help Nigeria meet and exceed its current demand for gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and kerosene, leaving ample product for export.
“This connotes significant positive economic impact on Nigeria and the West African region, transforming Nigeria from a net importer to exporter of refined petroleum products and curtailing significant foreign exchange outflows. “Additionally, the availability of excess fuel will also provide a catalyst for eliminating Nigeria’s expensive fuel subsidy,” he added.

Soyode said that the 650,000 barrels-per-day refinery would complement other major infrastructure investments that Dangote has planned at the strategically located Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos, including a port, gas processing facility, power plant, and petrochemical and Fertiliser complex. “When completed, this infrastructure complex will create a significant economy of scale for one of Africa’s largest industrial conglomerates, supporting jobs in both Nigeria and other African countries”, he added.
