Tell of us about the journey as a designer
It’s been an amazing journey so far. I sincerely thank God for His abundant grace and mercy. After getting my diploma at IMB I went in for LFDW young designer of the year 2013 and made it to the final 10 designers. This opened a lot of doors and opportunities for the brand afterwards. This was basically a launch for Reni Smith. And since then the reception has been great.
Why fashion designing?
I’ve always grown up loving when women look well dressed and sometimes editing different aspect of the clothe design to suit my design aesthetic. So it was just a natural decision after university to go for what I loved and enjoyed doing.
Best and worst designing moment
Best is having an amazing idea and then seeing it being actualized. For worst? There’s no worst for me. The whole process is lovely.
What inspires your designs?
I am inspired by any and everything. It could be Nature, art, people, stories, architecture and other people’s work.
What is your advice to aspiring designers?
Your dreams are valid; once you can conceive it you can achieve it. Be determined to reach your dreams and attain your goals. Be hardworking, always ready to learn, accept creative criticism, and always try to improve on your skills. Be positive, and the world is yours to conquer.
How affordable are your designs?
Reni smith is pretty affordable. Different final products, different prices.
Fabrics you love?
Hmmm, that’s a hard one. There are different things I enjoy about different fabrics. This would be a hard one for me to answer.
Educational background?
I have a BSC in accounting from Covenant University and a diploma in fashion styling from Instituto di Moda Burgo.
What fashion means to you?
Fashion is art, creation, expression; it’s like speaking through clothes.
