A socio-cultural group, Omolùábí has condemned the federal government for promoting idea of cow colony, vowing that the Yoruba people would not cede their lands to any usurper.
Speaking at a Colloquium tagged; “Omolúàbí Principles: A call to Return”, Prof. Banji Akintoye lamented that, the country had not practiced true federalism where each region could manage its resources for its development.
Prof. Akintoye, former Director, Institute of African Studies, Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife maintained that the country had wasted the opportunity to lead the rest of African continent because it has thrown into the dustbin the culture of integrity, selflessness, fairness, truth among others as conceptualized by Yoruba in Omoluaabi exchanging it for greed and corruption.
He added that, the country is however not beyond redemption, stressing that, the return to the adoption of these highly prized virtues would drive the country to the path of good governance.
Some of the Yoruba leaders who spoke at the Colloquium tagged; “Omolúàbí Principles: A call to Return” emphasized that, only return to the values system and cherished virtues of integrity, hard work, selflessness among others as conceptualized in Omoluabi principles by the Yoruba could help to restore the lost glory of the country.
The discussants including Sen. Femi Okunrounmu, Prof. Banji Akintoye, Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu, retired Archbishop of Ilesha Diocese of Methodist Church of Nigeria among others made this call yesterday at a programme tagged “Omoluwabi Principles: A Call to Return held at Mitros hall, Abeokuta.
In his own Sen. Femi Okurounmu, stated that the youths should take more interest in the running of the affairs of the country, urging them to step into leadership roles as elders currently managing the country had failed woefully.
He urged Nigerians to return to path of honour and integrity to fix myriads of problems challenging the socioeconomic development of the country.
Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu, retired Archbishop of Ilesa ArchDiocese of Methodist Church of Nigeria also challenged Nigerians to embrace right attitude and determine to pursue the greater good of the country saying that greed and selfishness had dealt serious blow to the desire of the country to attain greatness.
Other speakers at the occasion were Sen. Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa, Otunba Deji Osibogun, Chairman, Agbekoya, Mr. Abe Kole, social commentator and CEO, Think Thank forum, Barr. Opeyemi Agbaje among others.
