A TOAST TO VISION, GRACE, AND LEGACY: HAPPY 60TH BIRTHDAY TO H.E. MR. BABAJIDE OLUSOLA SANWO-OLU
“Leadership is not about a title or designation. It’s about impact, influence, and inspiration.” — Robin S. Sharma
Today, we celebrate a visionary, a quiet achiever, and a man of purpose. Your Excellency, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, your journey from finance into public service reflects a life driven by strategy, service, and substance. From your early days as Special Adviser to the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, to serving as Commissioner, then Managing Director of LSDPC, every step was guided by insight into Lagos and its future.
You were not just part of the Lagos transformation—you stood beside the Master Planner, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through negotiations and blueprint moments that reimagined the state. You didn’t inherit a vision—you helped craft it.
As Governor, you brought it all to life. The Lagos Metro is no longer a dream—it moves thousands daily. BRT corridors, terminals, and the Lekki International Airport are shaping a global megacity. You removed traffic bottlenecks, restructured traffic agencies, and made Lagos move smarter.
The Fourth Mainland Bridge is finally underway. Eko Atlantic City is rising. Lekki Deep Seaport is now Nigeria’s new gateway to trade. Investors are streaming in because you made Lagos easier, safer, and more profitable to do business.
Under your watch, the Dangote Refinery began operations, making Lagos a constant point of reference in the global oil industry. The Lekki Free Zone is expanding rapidly, now one of the most strategic industrial corridors on the continent.
You built for everyone. The wealthy and the working class now share access to housing through structured mortgage schemes. LagosHOMS stands as your promise made visible. You made homeownership possible for thousands.
You launched IBILE Oil and Gas, a Lagos-born energy initiative with a bold national ambition—an energy identity driven by innovation and local control.
You created two new state universities, expanded technical and vocational education, and planted the seeds of innovation in our young people. Education, for you, is the foundation of a sustainable Lagos.
You gave the world “Detty December”—now a global tourism brand. Lagos is the December capital of the world because you formalized a movement into a master plan for culture and economy. Soon, a Mega Film City in Epe will rise to support Nollywood’s growth—furthering your commitment to entertainment as economic power.
With Hon. Tokunbo Wahab, your urban renewal agenda has delivered a cleaner, greener Lagos. Drainage reform, sanitation enforcement, waste management, and environmental awareness have moved Lagos toward global urban standards.
You’ve addressed food insecurity head-on by bringing food markets directly to communities—a visionary act of compassion, dignity, and urgency.
On security, you’ve built a tech-powered safety net—more patrol vehicles, smart surveillance systems, and an ever-growing CCTV network. You warned: “If you don’t want to go to jail, don’t do crime in Lagos.” That was no bluff. Criminals now know Lagos is wired and watched.
You are not only protecting the state—you are digitizing its defense.
You’ve led with calm through storms, steadiness through unrest, and compassion in policy. You are a bridge between elite vision and grassroots needs. You are a governor for all—humble, focused, and firm.
You’ve raised a new generation of leaders and public servants. You’ve shown that leadership is not about noise, but results. You’ve given us a Lagos beyond now—and beyond limits.
As we honour your 60th birthday, we pray:
May divine wisdom continue to guide your heart. May your family dwell in health, peace, and joy. May your path shine brighter each day. When history records the rebirth of Lagos, your name will be inscribed in gold. And when Nigeria seeks healing and direction, your hand will be steady and ready.
Happy 60th Birthday to a servant-leader, a city transformer, and a national asset.

Buratai Pays Tribute to Ihejirika at 70, Hails Mentorship and Legacy of Leadership
Buratai Pays Tribute to Ihejirika at 70, Hails Mentorship and Legacy of Leadership
Former Chief of Army Staff and Nigeria’s immediate past Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has paid a glowing tribute to his predecessor, Lt. Gen. OA Ihejirika, as the retired General marks his 70th birthday.
In a heartfelt message released in Abuja on Friday, Buratai described Ihejirika as not only a distinguished soldier and statesman, but also a commander, mentor, and “architect of leadership” whose influence shaped a generation of senior military officers.
Buratai recalled that his professional rise within the Nigerian Army was significantly moulded under Ihejirika’s command, citing key appointments that defined his career trajectory.
According to him, the trust reposed in him through early command responsibilities, including his first command posting at Headquarters 2 Brigade and later as Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, laid a solid foundation for his future leadership roles.
“These opportunities were not mere appointments; they were strategic investments in leadership,” Buratai noted, adding that such exposure prepared him for higher national responsibilities.
He further acknowledged that the mentorship and professional grounding he received under Ihejirika’s leadership were instrumental in his eventual appointment as Chief of Army Staff and later as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Benin.
Buratai praised Ihejirika’s command philosophy, describing it as professional, pragmatic, and mission-driven. He said the former Army Chief led by example, combining firm strategic direction with a clear blueprint for excellence that continues to influence military leadership practices.
“At seventy, General Ihejirika has earned the right to reflect on a legacy secured,” Buratai stated, praying for good health, peace, and enduring joy for the retired General as he enters a new decade.
He concluded by expressing profound gratitude for the leadership, mentorship, and lasting example provided by Ihejirika over the years.
The tribute was signed by Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, who described himself as a grateful mentee and successor, underscoring the enduring bonds of mentorship within the Nigerian Army’s top leadership.
