ABOUT THE RECENT ROAD INSPECTION OF GOVERNOR DAPO ABIODUN
ABOUT THE RECENT ROAD INSPECTION OF GOVERNOR DAPO ABIODUN
By Olorunfemi Adejuyigbe
The recent visit of His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun to spoilt sections of the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta express way, the Sango/Ijoko road networks in Ota and the Ilaro-Owode road is one that has been much anticipated by the thousands of residents who ply this road daily.
These roads which are deliberately uncompleted projects of the immediate past administration is one of very high economic importance to the state and to the residents. As much as the divided opposition tried to paint the visit as a political one, it remains one very important working visit of His Excellency.
From antecedents, His Excellency is known to keep his words unlike those who promised to do everything but became Mayor of only a Senatorial District. While I personally wished the Governor swung into immediate action, we should be rest assured that His Excellency will swing into action upon the expiration of the 2 weeks ultimatum. His interest on this road will liberate us from the deliberate under-development, deliberate incompletion and intentional substandard quality of the road by the last administration especially in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government.
The immediate past administration had the habit of leaving this very important road undergoing construction while election is coming up to leave the residents in “un-actualised hope” of finishing the road so as to garner votes only to leave uncompleted roads and bridges across especially Ado-Odo/Ota for example at Ijoko and Lusada. This joke would have continued but for God who changed the narrative by the defeat of the self-imposed god-son of the former Governor. It is common knowledge that several futile efforts were desperately made by the opposition-within to spoil the good name and Omoluabi nature of Mr Governor. But he handled the exuberance with maturity and calmness and all the evil plots faded away naturally which led to a second time sojourn to Dreamland.
The good people of Ogun State should not be surprised as we approach the election. The job of governance is a serious one and deserves a lot of concentration. I from the bottom of my heart continue to pray for His Excellency and his team for more wisdom, knowledge, understanding and good health to continue to deliver the much needed dividends of democracy to us the people of Ogun State placing much emphasis on Ado-Odo/Ota. We cannot wait to see Engineers on site not only to restart work but to complete the abandoned project of the last administration as he has continued to do since inception.

Buratai Pays Tribute to Ihejirika at 70, Hails Mentorship and Legacy of Leadership
Buratai Pays Tribute to Ihejirika at 70, Hails Mentorship and Legacy of Leadership
Former Chief of Army Staff and Nigeria’s immediate past Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has paid a glowing tribute to his predecessor, Lt. Gen. OA Ihejirika, as the retired General marks his 70th birthday.
In a heartfelt message released in Abuja on Friday, Buratai described Ihejirika as not only a distinguished soldier and statesman, but also a commander, mentor, and “architect of leadership” whose influence shaped a generation of senior military officers.
Buratai recalled that his professional rise within the Nigerian Army was significantly moulded under Ihejirika’s command, citing key appointments that defined his career trajectory.
According to him, the trust reposed in him through early command responsibilities, including his first command posting at Headquarters 2 Brigade and later as Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, laid a solid foundation for his future leadership roles.
“These opportunities were not mere appointments; they were strategic investments in leadership,” Buratai noted, adding that such exposure prepared him for higher national responsibilities.
He further acknowledged that the mentorship and professional grounding he received under Ihejirika’s leadership were instrumental in his eventual appointment as Chief of Army Staff and later as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Benin.
Buratai praised Ihejirika’s command philosophy, describing it as professional, pragmatic, and mission-driven. He said the former Army Chief led by example, combining firm strategic direction with a clear blueprint for excellence that continues to influence military leadership practices.
“At seventy, General Ihejirika has earned the right to reflect on a legacy secured,” Buratai stated, praying for good health, peace, and enduring joy for the retired General as he enters a new decade.
He concluded by expressing profound gratitude for the leadership, mentorship, and lasting example provided by Ihejirika over the years.
The tribute was signed by Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, who described himself as a grateful mentee and successor, underscoring the enduring bonds of mentorship within the Nigerian Army’s top leadership.
