BabyFest honours Sanwo-Olu, Midwives in Lagos
BabyFest; a pregnancy, mother and child focused trade fair at the weekend in Lagos, honoured Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the Wife of the Governor of Lagos State with the Mother’s Touch Award for her efforts in reducing maternal and child mortality through the Mother, Infant and Child Initiative (MICH).
Three midwives were also recognized and rewarded with monetary prizes for outstanding performance at their various hospitals. The Ceremony was part of activities at the third and final day of the 2022 edition of BabyFest.
The outstanding mid-wives are Mrs Damilola Jegede of Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Mrs Olutayo Sunmola of General Hospital, Isolo and Mrs Olutoyin Babatunde of Randle Maternity and Health Care Center Surulere.
Dr Folasade Fadare, Medical Director, Ibeju-Lekki General Hospital, Akodo who represented the First Lady of Lagos State, appreciated the award and commended the organizers of BabyFest for The Rose Awards while congratulating the awardees.
“On behalf of the First Lady of Lagos state, I commend BabyFest for this well-thought out initiative. It is a good idea. Lagos State Government is fully committed to health care delivery and so we appreciate the BabyFest and The Rose Award initiative that was born to appreciate and recognize midwives. This will go a long way to encourage mid-wives to put in more efforts in discharging their duties. I also congratulate the awardees. All other activities at BabyFest are well commended. The Baby Shower, Diaper Changing competitions by fathers and the hilarious Baby Crawling Competition which we just witnesses will encourage family focused offerings. I congratulate the winners of all the competitions as well as the organizers of BabyFest.”
Votes were collated from different hospitals across the state from ante-natal and post-natal patients, from which the top three midwives were selected for The Rose Awards.
Reacting to the awards, the mid-wives appreciated BabyFest. The mid-wife from Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Mrs Damilola Jegede, stated “I feel honoured receiving this award from BabyFest. We want to see more of what BabyFest is doing, hence we are open to partnerships. Thank you so much, BabyFest, I am grateful”.
The mid-wife awardee from General Hospital, Isolo, stated “I was surprised when I was told I was one of the winners. I feel great and honoured. With this, I am encouraged to keep doing my best. It goes a long way to show that patients are watching us and noticing our little contributions. I appreciate my patients who voted me, and I say a very big thank you to BabyFest”.
The awardee from Randle Maternity and Child Care Center, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babatunde stated “I was very surprised when I got a call that I emerged as one of the winners of the Rose Awards. I’m so happy and I feel greatly honoured. Just as the saying goes, to whom much is given, much is expected, I am inspired to keep giving my best on the job. I count it a privilege receiving this award from BabyFest. I say a big thanks to BabyFest and my patients who voted me. It simply tells me that my performances have not gone unnoticed.

3. Deed of Assignment:

4. Governor’s Consent:
If the land has a Certificate of Occupancy, obtaining the Governor’s Consent is necessary for the transfer of ownership. It involves an application to the state governor, and upon approval, the consent is endorsed on the Deed of Assignment.
5. Excision:
An Excision signifies the release of a portion of land from government acquisition. It is especially crucial for lands situated in areas that were previously marked as government-owned. A valid Excision grants legitimacy to the land title and should be confirmed with the relevant authorities.
6. Approved Building Plan:
Before any construction activities commence, it is mandatory to have an approved building plan from the appropriate government agency. This ensures that the proposed structure complies with urban planning regulations and standards.
7. Tax Clearance Certificate:
A Tax Clearance Certificate from the seller is necessary to verify that all property taxes have been paid. It is a requirement for the processing of some land-related documents and helps ensure a clean and legal transaction.
8. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA):
In some cases, an Environmental Impact Assessment may be required, particularly for large-scale developments. This assessment ensures that the proposed project complies with environmental regulations and mitigates potential negative impacts.
9. Receipts of Payment:
Retain all receipts of payments made during the transaction. This includes payments for the land, survey, legal fees, and any other associated costs. These receipts serve as proof of transaction and can be crucial in case of any disputes.

Dollar Tumbles Against Naira At Parallel Market
Sahara Weekly Reports That The naira sustained its appreciation against the United States dollar at the parallel market as it appreciated on Friday, from N1,160 to N1,155.
This represents 0.43 percent (N5) gain than N1,160 exchanged on Thursday at the parallel market.
It could be recalled that the naira had steadied in the parallel market on Wednesday and Thursday as it sells for N1,160 respectively.
However, the forex turnover, on Thursday, hit $105.50million according to data from NAFEM, the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market, the market trading segment for Investors, Exporters and End-users.
The turnover represents the amount of dollars traded at a particular trading day.
Although the rate is still unpalatable to the business community and Nigerians at large but a management consultant, Babatunde Adeniji, said the naira crisis is being largely driven by speculation following the country’s liquidity challenge.
“In terms of price, for the short time it is speculation that drives things. If you are a trader and you want to take a bet, with the level of distrust of the government, with no clear visible assurance of where the dollar is coming from to stabilise the naira, which position would you take? You are bound to take the position skewed towards the dollar,” he stated.
He said the country would begin to heave a sigh of relief when the authorities can pay up all the backlog of foreign exchange forwards with sufficient liquidity to meet pending obligations.
“Nigeria as a country does not have enough dollars to meet its promise. If we don’t do things that are substantial and visible, all that grammar would not help.
