Billionaire Heiress, Temi Otedola, Shines As Kunle Afolayan Premiers New Movie, Citation on Netflix.

On Friday, November 6, Citation, the seventh movie of filmmaker par excellence, Kunle Afolayan, will be released on video streaming platform, Netflix, to a global audience.

The coming of age movie, written by Tunde Babalola, is a university drama centred on a female postgraduate student who has to find a way of dealing with the incidence of sexual harassment from a popular male lecturer. It was shot in Nigeria, Senegal and Cape Verde and features tested thespians like Haitian-born Hollywood actor, Jimmy Jean Louis, Sadiq Daba and Gabriel Afolayan with a cameo by Dr Mrs Ibukun Awosika, the chairman of First Bank of Nigeria.

Last Saturday, Citation was premiered to a select audience at the Terra Kulture, Victoria Island. The event had in attendance the cast of Citation; Dr. Mrs Ibukun Awosika, Temi Otedola, Ini Edo, Gabriel Afolayan, Seun Kuti, Toyin Ogundeji alongside the partners behind the movie; Ford Foundation, Access “W’ Initiative, Natnudos, Canon, Flyboku, GAC Motors, Arik Air, Ajike Foundation; and other guests like Sola Sobowale, the Director-General of NFVCB, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas; the President and Executive Producer of All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), Mike Dada; filmmaker and cinematographer, Clarence Peters; actress, Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha; the former Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Lagos State, Steve Ayorinde; Former DG of NFVCB; Emeka Mba; and the MD of Terra Kulture; Mrs Bolanle Austen Peters.

Starting off with the red-carpet moment, canapés, cocktails and conversations, the screening began with the opening speech from Afolayan who welcomed everyone and appreciated the effort of the cast, crew and the partners. As the movie screened to the eclectic audience, there was no mistaking that Afolayan’s reputation for turning a newbie to a maven would be further cemented with Citation as billionaire heiress, Temi, the winsome fashion and arts-loving daughter of Femi Otedola, stars and sparkles.

Temi, the last child of the billionaire businessman, is a fashion and travel blogger and owns JTO Fashion, a multimedia platform from which she expresses her adventures through the arenas of fashion, beauty, art, and travel. Like her two older sisters, Tolani and DJ Cuppy, who have blooming careers in entertainment, Temi also has the backing of her dad. DJ Cuppy has toured the world and performed at big concerts as a Dee Jay and budding musician; while Tolani, the dark-hued singer-songwriter took the Nigerian music industry by storm in 2019 with her hit single, Ba Mi Lo, featuring Reekado Banks.

She got a standing ovation for her compelling acting, just as Afolayan was also commended for a job well done. According to him, ‘The Citation,’ apart from its thematic premise, will attempt to market Cape Verde to Nigerians and the rest of the world while also establishing film and cultural affinity between the two countries.

In a statement made available to the media months back, Cape Verde’s Culture and Creative Industries Minister, Abrãao Vicente, who led the government team that included the Director-General of Arts and Creative Industries, Adilson Lima Gomes and the Coordinator of Cultural Goods and Music, Luhena Correia, in negotiating the deal, was quoted as saying that she believes that the collaboration will enhance a good relationship between Cape Verde and Nollywood.

Oleksandr Usyk Defeats Tyson Fury Again, Solidifies Legacy Among Boxing Greats

Ukrainian boxing sensation Oleksandr Usyk retained his heavyweight championship titles and cemented his place in boxing history with a unanimous decision victory over Britain’s Tyson Fury in their rematch on Saturday night.

The judges scored the bout 116-112 in Usyk’s favor across the board, marking his second consecutive win over Fury. This victory extended Usyk’s flawless professional record to 23-0, with 14 knockouts, adding another chapter to a career already highlighted by Olympic gold and an undisputed cruiserweight championship.

A Masterclass Performance

Usyk, 37, showcased his signature precision and relentless pace, repeatedly catching Fury with clean left hooks and dominating the latter stages of the fight. Fury, at 6ft 9in (206cm) and weighing a career-high 281 pounds, attempted to impose his physicality but was unable to break Usyk’s composure.

The fight, held in Saudi Arabia, saw Usyk wearing traditional Cossack attire during his entrance, while Fury entered the arena dressed in a festive Santa-inspired robe to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”

The early rounds were competitive, with Fury landing powerful jabs and body shots. However, Usyk’s endurance and tactical brilliance began to shine in the middle rounds. The Ukrainian landed sharp combinations and dictated the tempo, including a stunning uppercut in the final round that left little doubt about the outcome.

“I thought I’ve won both fights,” Fury said post-match, sporting a bruised right eye. “But I’ll always believe until the day I die that I won that fight.”

A Legacy Sealed

Usyk’s victory solidified his standing as one of the greatest heavyweights in history. Already the first undisputed heavyweight of the four-belt era, Usyk joins the ranks of legends like Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, and Mike Tyson.

The bout, reported to have a prize purse of $190 million, also underscored Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in global sports. Usyk, who served briefly as a soldier during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, celebrated his victory by hoisting a symbolic sabre belonging to Ukrainian nationalist hero Ivan Mazepa.

Fury’s Uncertain Future

The defeat leaves Fury’s future in doubt. Once unbeaten across 35 fights, Fury now stands at 34-2-1. His attempt to reclaim glory after a brief retirement in 2022 has been marred by back-to-back losses to Usyk.

Usyk, on the other hand, continues to add to his already remarkable resume, leaving fans and critics alike in awe of his technical skill, resilience, and determination. As the heavyweight division looks ahead, Usyk’s reign appears unshakable, and his place among boxing’s all-time greats is firmly secured.
