Presidential Broadcast: CDHR Replies Tinubu, Demands Immediate Reversal of Fuel Subsidy Amid Ongoing Protests

In his early morning address on 4th of August, the president acknowledged the hardships that come with fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate policy of the federal government but according to him, the policies have blocked the greed and the profits that smugglers and rent-seekers made and blocked undue subsidies extended to our neighbouring countries to the detriment of Nigerian people. He said the government has made significant strides in rebuilding the foundation of our economy to carry us into a future of plenty and abundance, the aggregate government revenues have more than doubled, hitting over 9.1 trillion Naira in the first half of 2024 compared to the first half of 2023 due to our efforts at blocking leakages, introducing automation, and mobilising funding creatively without additional burden on the people. Productivity is gradually increasing in the non-oil sector, reaching new levels and taking advantage of the opportunities in the current economic ambience and reducing debt servicing from 97% to 68%.

Having reviewed the key takeaways from the President’s broadcast, CDHR noted that there are no timelines to each of the promises the president proposed only hammering on their achievements so far which have not been really felt by Nigerian people. CDHR charges the federal government to give timelines for the fulfilment of the proposed promises to ease the living conditions of Nigerian people.

CDHR demands immediate reversal of petroleum fuel subsidy, which have thrown the country into hyper inflationary conditions, charges the federal government to curb all corruptive elements that are associated with it. Also, the hike in electricity tarrif should be reversed to return many businesses back to production.

CDHR describes the students’ loan scheme the federal government is hammering upona as tokenism. The government should instead identify eligible indigent students and give them grants and scholarships to support their education and sustenance while in school as it is applicable in most civilised countries. The loans given to SME businesses should be made flexible, interest- free, and easy repayment mechanisms

CDHR seeks for extension of timeline for the waivers on import duties and taxes on food items beyond six months. This will allow food surplus pending the harvest season of Nigerian farm produce when the free windows be terminated. Federal government is also encouraged to pursue economic policies that are business friendly and productivity enhancement to restore the real value of naira and reduce inflation to the bearest minimum.

CDHR demands from the federal government to beam their search light on all human rights violations across the country as the end bad governance protest continues, bringing the perpetrators to justice and adequately compensate the victims. In the same, adequate compensations should be given to the families of all persons who lost their lives during these protests, including the security officials. Adequate compensation should be given to the owners of wantonly destroyed properties during the protest.

CDHR cautions the leaders and the mobilisers of the protest on violence and destruction of public and private properties, respects the rule of law, and possibly gives the government another opportunity to address the salient issues raised.

E-Signed:

Comrade Debo Adeniran,

National President CDHR Nigeria.

Primate Ayodele Never Said Seyi Makinde Would Become President’’ – Media Aide Clarifies*

Primate Ayodele’s Prophecy Fulfilled As South Sudan Postpones Election Till 2026

South Sudan’s parties to the 2018 peace agreement have extended the current transitional period by another two years.

The decision was reached during a meeting President Salva Kiir held with his deputies, cabinet members and advisors in the capital, Juba on Friday.

The extension implies the country’s first post-independence election initially scheduled for December 22, 2024 will not take place.

The Cabinet Affairs minister, Martin Elia Lomuro said the transition period extension is an opportunity to implement the remaining key provisions in the peace agreement.

“The extension is in response to the recommendations from the electoral institutions and the security sector. It is an opportunity to implement the pending issues in the peace deal’” he said.

This development has fulfilled the prophecies of Primate Elijah Ayodele of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church which he shared at different times regarding the presidential election.

The prophet in September 2023 stated in a video that the date for the election will be changed due to insecurity in the country. He made it known that the election will not see the light of the day and will be destabilized.

These were his words:

‘’South Sudan election: the date for the election will be changed, the election isn’t realistic, mark my words because of insecurity in the country. If you go ahead, the election will not see the light of the day and it will be destabilized. The moment you have a shift in the election, the international community will begin to put pressure on South Sudan and if you go ahead with the election, rebels are ready to cause imminent danger, the date isn’t realistic.’’

PDP govs lose as NWC hands Wike Control Of Rivrs PDP

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has solidified his position in the Peoples Democratic Party leadership crisis as the National Working Committee endorsed the Rivers State congresses.

Wike’s loyalists within the PDP NWC not only secured the approval but also postponed the National Executive Committee meeting, originally set for September 26, to October 24, which could have overturned the decision.

The PDP NWC, led by acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, made this decision during a meeting at the party’s national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja on Thursday.

The NWC meeting had been delayed for the past three weeks amid rising tension within the party, especially between former Rivers State governor Wike and the PDP Governors Forum over the status of Rivers State party congresses.

The political conflict between Wike and current Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, escalated on August 24 when PDP governors publicly backed Fubara.

PDP governors called for a review of the Rivers State Congresses and affirmed Fubara’s role as the leader of the PDP in the state.

This support for Fubara enraged Wike, who on August 31 threatened to create chaos in the governors’ states if they did not refrain from interfering in Rivers State matters.

In response, on September 3, the PDP Governors’ Forum condemned Wike’s threat as irresponsible.

A senior NWC member, speaking anonymously due to lack of authorisation, revealed that the approval of the Rivers and other state congresses was granted, and the NEC meeting had been rescheduled to October 24.

The NEC meeting, originally set for August to address burning issues, including Damagum’s replacement, was first moved to September 26 because some members were travelling to Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage. It has now been rescheduled to October 24.

The source stated, “They have achieved their aim. Wike has again defeated the PDP governors as the NWC approved the Rivers and other states’ congresses. There was nothing a few NWC members who were against it could do other than allow them to have their way. As it stands, only the NEC can overturn it to suit the governors’ demands.

“The Rivers State Congresses and those of other states were approved by the NWC. A few states where issues were identified were stepped down. For example, in Kogi, the Chairman and Deputy were not approved due to anomalies.

“Only the NEC can overturn the NWC’s decision on Rivers and other states. However, the NEC meeting, originally slated for September 26, has been postponed to October 24, which may not hold on that date. As it stands, Wike has defeated the Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed-led PDP Governors Forum
