The honour and award, by the nation’s first private University, among various others, are well-deserved and a vote of confidence on Ambassador Buratai on his patriotism and loyalty to the Nigerian state and humanity as a whole.

The latest feather on Ambassador Buratai’s cap is a testament to his doggedness and selfless service to his fatherland.

This honour and other honours and awards are as a recognition of Buratai’s distinguished, meritorious and dedicated service to the country and humanity.

As the Chief of Army Staff, (COAS, Nigerian Army), General Buratai conceived and played a critical role in the sustenance of our country’s sovereign integrity.

General Buratai’s ethical and professional display throughout his reign as the Chief of Army Staff earned him an Ambassadorial position after his retirement from the Nigerian Army, where he fostered a cordial relationship between the Republic of Benin and Nigeria.

He has a sterling reputation as a military strategist and his dedication and role in the fight against terrorism and insurgency are well-documented in the history of Nigeria. Under his watch, Nigeria conducted a successful 2019 general election with voters in the northeastern part of the country fully participating in the exercise. He decimated, degraded and technically defeated Boko Haram and Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Nigeria and made the northeast and other part of the Country a safe zone for all residents.

General Buratai is a combination of strength and character, whose deep thoughts gave birth to numerous interventions that repositioned the Nigerian Army. Aside from the combat efficiency of the Nigerian Army, which was at its peak during his tenure, he was able to make tangible introductions that many thought could not be achieved.

A good example is the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC). Also, his approach to an enhanced civil–military relationship, brought the military especially the Nigerian Army closer to the populace.

During his tenure as Army Chief, Buratai initiated a range of activities in support of developing the force through intensive training, mentoring, partnering, monitoring and empowering. His efforts in this regard include setting up the Nigerian Army Institute of Technology and Environmental Studies in Biu, Nigerian Army Aviation hangar at Jaji Airstrip, Kaduna; Mine Resistance Amour Protected vehicles (MRAP); establishment of the Nigerian Army Special Forces School; First Nigerian Army indigenous infantry patrol vehicle; Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command and the Nigerian Army Vehicle Manufacturing Company, and other numerous intervention, that made the Nigerian Army a truly peoples army and the bedrock of our democracy.

In addition, he established Nigerian Army Farms and Ranches and he built and commissioned various monumental projects across various army formations throughout the Country. The former Army chief also renovated a lot of projects he met on the ground and initiated water projects across various barracks. It is believed that in terms of projects, capacity building, training, and welfare, Buratai’s tenure as COAS is always a reference point and second to none.

General Buratai, is a patriot, a nationalist, an epitome of selflessness, altruistic and unalloyed leadership.

The Southern Youth leaders by this statement once again salute this exemplary leader, consummate soldier, and meritorious Chief of Army Staff, who came when his country needed him most, has continued to serve humanity, and has impacted positively on this generation.

Tiwa Savage Reveals Divorce Struggles: “It Made Me Depressed and Turned Me Into the ‘African Bad Girl'”

Nigerian music sensation Tiwa Savage has opened up about her turbulent divorce from Tunji “TeeBillz” Balogun, sharing deeply personal insights about the emotional toll it took on her life and career.

Tiwa Savage Reveals Divorce Struggles: "It Made Me Depressed and Turned Me Into the 'African Bad Girl'"

Speaking candidly on The Receipts Podcast, the 44-year-old Afrobeat star reflected on the heartbreak of her 2018 separation, which she revealed was exacerbated by her struggles with postpartum depression and public backlash.

“I Was Nigeria’s Sweetheart”
Tiwa described how her rise to fame was met with widespread admiration, as she followed what she called the “perfect path” of societal expectations.

“When I started, I was Nigeria’s sweetheart. I could do no wrong. I went to university, got married, had a baby — everything by the book. But then everything came crashing down, and I became the target of criticism,” she said.

The separation, which TeeBillz announced online, marked a turning point in Tiwa’s life. Despite not initiating the breakup, she recalled being vilified in the media and by the public.

“I Was Told I’d Never Win”

Tiwa revealed how the overwhelming criticism pushed her into a dark place. “At the time, my baby was just a few months old, and I was already dealing with postpartum depression. My body wasn’t the same, and I was depressed. But instead of support, people attacked me,” she shared.

After attempting to tell her side of the story in a public interview, she faced even more backlash.

“People said, ‘How dare you go and talk? You’re a woman, and you’re supposed to hold the home together.’ Famous people called to tell me I’d never win, and it was my fault because I was a woman. It was heartbreaking,” Tiwa recounted.

Reinvention as the “African Bad Girl”
The constant criticism and emotional pain led Tiwa to transform her image and embrace a bolder persona.

“It made me depressed for so long, but it also made me angry. I thought to myself, ‘If I did everything right and still got attacked, why should I bother?’ That’s when I became the ‘African Bad Girl,’” she said.

Tiwa explained how she began to rebel against societal norms, opting for tattoos, shorter skirts, and bikinis. “I was just wild. It was my way of coping and reclaiming control of my life after being judged for so long,” she added.

Despite the challenges, Tiwa’s resilience and reinvention have made her an enduring icon in the global music scene, solidifying her place as a trailblazer in African entertainment.

The revelations highlight not only the personal cost of fame but also the cultural pressures that women in the spotlight often endure. Through it all, Tiwa continues to inspire, proving that reinvention is a powerful tool for survival and success.

"Ex-Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Secures Bail, Appeals for Flexible Conditions"

Court Grants Bail in Money Laundering Case with Stringent Terms

Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello, has successfully appealed for bail before Justice Maryann Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, Abuja, in a case involving alleged money laundering of N110.4 billion.

Bello, represented by his counsel J.B. Daudu SAN, requested adjustments to the bail conditions, specifically the requirement of landed property in Maitama. He argued that obtaining Certificates of Occupancy and title documents in the district is challenging due to the area’s peculiarities.

“My Lord, many buildings in Maitama are corporate establishments, and individuals are often reluctant to part with their original title documents. We plead that other highbrow areas like Asokoro, Wuse 2, Guzape, and others be considered for meeting the bail conditions,” Daudu said.

The prosecution, led by Olukayode Eniton SAN, did not oppose the bail application, stating confidence in the defendant’s willingness to stand trial.

Justice Anenih granted Bello bail in the sum of N500 million with three sureties in like sum. The sureties must own landed properties in Maitama or other specified highbrow areas such as Jabi, Utako, Apo, Guzape, Garki, or Asokoro.

Additional conditions include the submission of Bello’s passport and other travel documents to the court registrar. Until the bail terms are met, Bello will remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Kuje.

For co-defendants Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, the court reduced their bail sum from N300 million to N200 million, allowing the use of properties within the court’s jurisdiction that match the bail value.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Bello, Oricha, and Hudu on a 16-count charge of criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving N110.4 billion.

Justice Anenih adjourned the hearing on the substantive suit to January 29, 2024.
