BENIN- A former member of the House of Representatives, Prince Ned
Nwoko has expressed his desire to build a University for sport that
would be first of its kind in the country and West Africa.
Nwoko who attributed the move to his passion for sports and its
development disclosed that the University would be located in
Idumuje-ugboko, Aniocha local government area of Delta State.
He said: “I love the development of sports in Delta State and the
country. So, my natural choice is a Sports University.
“And because of my love and passion for sports, I must look inward
first… of course, I know that in my village, we need to develop.
So, there is nothing that could develop a village of mine like a university.
“If I can do anything for my people, it’s university as a legacy
that will survive everyone of us,” Nwoko said.
On why he is investing in sports university. Nwoko said: “Why not?
Infact, I know some sports university in south korea, America, China
and UK.
“Therefore, I am looking for something unique. I love sport and
tourism and my life is sport. We seem to be part of it in this
location.
“Besides, just because it is sports university does not mean there
won’t be other conventional courses. We will offer normal courses…
whether it is history, accountancy or business studies.
“But we are going to have a very huge sports faculty where such
courses like sports management, technology and of course all the
sports will be taught.
“I believe in sports development which for me is the most important
thing. Catch them young, groom them as experts of Olympic gold
medalist and you will be home with them.
The university will be built. There will be peace in my village and
the family because I am not building it for myself.
