NBM OF AFRICA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO PEACE AND NON‑VIOLENCE
NBM OF AFRICA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO PEACE AND NON‑VIOLENCE
The leadership of the NBM of Africa commends all media platforms and organizations that continue to use their influence to promote peace and discourage violence in our society. These noble efforts reflect the true spirit of responsible brotherhood and align with the core mandate of our organization.
NBM of Africa is committed to working collaboratively with the media, government agencies, law enforcement authorities, educational institutions, and community leaders to eliminate violence and build a safer, more enlightened society.
We find it necessary to clarify the true meaning and origin of the term confraternity. Historically and legally, a confraternity is a fellowship or brotherhood formed to promote mutual support, intellectual growth, and social responsibility. Confraternities are not inherently violent. On the contrary, they are recognized and respected in many parts of the world for their positive contributions to society. For instance:
• In Italy, Catholic confraternities have existed since the Middle Ages, championing charitable and religious causes.
• In the United States, Greek‑letter fraternities such as Alpha Phi Alpha and Kappa Alpha Psi are known for fostering academic excellence, leadership, and community service.
• In France, confréries continue to preserve cultural heritage, arts, and regional traditions.
What unites these organizations is their unwavering commitment to personal development, brotherhood, and social contribution — not violence.
Regrettably, in our local context, the term confraternity is often misunderstood and wrongly associated with cultism or mafia-style gangs involved in criminal activity. This misconception must be addressed. NBM of Africa is not a cult and has no affiliation with any criminal group.
We are a legally registered socio-cultural organization founded on the principles of African renaissance, unity, education, discipline, and community development.
In line with these values, the current administration has implemented concrete measures to:
• Educate members on peaceful conflict resolution and adherence to lawful conduct;
• Provide crisis-management training to promote maturity and de-escalation in disputes;
• Sensitize the public on the difference between legitimate confraternities and criminal gangs.
We appeal to the media for fair, balanced, and objective reporting. NBM of Africa is not in conflict with any media outlet, nor does it engage in any supremacy contest with other groups. Our only adversary is violence — and it is only through unity that we can eradicate it.
NBM of Africa reiterates its non-violent stance and remains firmly committed to the ideals of lawful brotherhood, peacebuilding, and positive societal transformation.
Signed,
Barr. Hope Aliu

Zamfara State Launches Landmark IDP Policy and Action Plan as UNDP, Northwest Forum Pledge Support
Zamfara State Launches Landmark IDP Policy and Action Plan as UNDP, Northwest Forum Pledge Support
In a significant move to address the humanitarian crisis wrought by banditry and internal displacement, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, His Excellency Dr. Dauda Lawal, has officially launched a comprehensive policy framework and action plan aimed at delivering durable solutions for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the state.
The Governor attended the joint launch ceremony for the IDP Policy and the State Action Plan on Durable Solutions, an initiative simultaneously rolled out for both Katsina and Zamfara States in the nations capital Abuja today Feburary 16, 2026. The event marks a pivotal moment in the region’s approach to managing displacement, shifting from emergency response to long-term, sustainable recovery.
The ambitious programme is the product of a strategic collaboration between the Northwest Governors Forum and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This partnership underscores a unified, regional acknowledgment that the challenges of displacement require coordinated, multi-state solutions that address root causes and build lasting resilience.
For Zamfara State, which has borne the brunt of years of insecurity, the new policy is being hailed not merely as a bureaucratic formality, but as a binding social contract with its most vulnerable citizens. It establishes a clear roadmap for restoring the dignity of displaced families, with a laser focus on rebuilding shattered communities and creating viable pathways for safe return, peaceful resettlement, and sustainable reintegration.
The framework goes beyond temporary relief, outlining concrete strategies to help displaced populations not just survive, but ultimately thrive in safety. It seeks to transform the lives of those who have lost their homes and livelihoods by ensuring they are active participants in the state’s recovery.
Speaking at the launch, Governor Lawal reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering commitment to translating the policy document into tangible, measurable impact on the ground. “Under my leadership, we remain committed to ensuring that this framework translates into measurable impact for our people.”
The launch signals a new chapter for Zamfara, one focused on healing and forward momentum. By anchoring the response in a durable solutions framework, the state government aims to build systemic resilience, strengthen the capacity of local institutions to manage future crises, and ultimately, shape a more secure, stable, and inclusive future for all residents of Zamfara State.
