NURTW Boss Advocate For Peace Among Members Across The Nation ….,. Preaches Unity and Safety In Ember Month

By Ifeoma Ikem

Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa, President, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has embarked on a nationwide sensitization of members to preach peaceful coexistence.

Speaking during his visit to the Lagos Chapter, the National President disclosed that part of his plan on the visit was to restore unity and ensure harmonious relationships among members.

Baruwa said that the union would be working effectively to ensure that all aggrieved members within Lagos sheath their swords and work together for the development of NURTW as well as the commercial nerve centre of the country.

To ensure a united NURTW in Lagos, he noted that the transport union headquarters has concluded plans to bring all aggrieved members including those that were shown the exit doors for contravening Union’s rules back into the fold and to create a one big family in the state.

He stated that , to ensure unity, his leadership would resolve all issues between members and create avenue for those that were formerly holding major posts within the state chapter to resume office while those that have taken over from them will not be remove.

Baruwa explained that rather than ask those already occupying the seat previously held by aggrieved members to vacate, the entire process would be adjusted to accommodate them to return to that level where they were before been asked to leave.

In the light of this reconciliation, Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede former state chairman NURTW Lagos State chapter, and presently Vice president NURTW was restored back as chairman Agege Branch ‘A’, by the president of NURTW Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa.

However, we have also decided to punish by suspending those found to have contravened the rules of the union, involving, Comrade Yinka Hassan, Assistant Secretary and Comrade Ibrahim Yusuf, Financial Secretary, who are suspended until further notice.

“I believe that whenever anyone is punished, after some times, he should be forgiven and ask to return. So that is part of what we are coming to do in the state.

“Truly, the position of those aggrieved members might have been filled but we will address the issue to ensure that everyone return and can feel they have returned to their brothers’ fold as well as work like a one family”.

He stressed that the moves were basically to ensure that the union speaks with one voice and everyone key into the development plans of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s transportation development plan for Lagos State,

The president of NURTW also promise Awards for Governor Babajide Sanwolu, president of NURTW Alhaji Ibikunle Baruwa said NURTW is coming to give Award to Governor,

“The constitution of the union stipulates that the members must work with the government to ensure peaceful coexistence”.

According to him, Lagos remain one of the union’s major chapter with very large unity and members, crisis could arise and further snowball into breakdown of law and order.

The NURTW President stressed that these were part of the message the union leadership had been taking to all states, sensitizing members on the importance of peace and safety on our roads, requiring that everyone should drive carefully, obeying traffic regulations as we approach the Yuletide season.

“Importantly, drivers should not drink before driving neither should they drink on the wheels. They must not violate speed limits and ensure that their vehicles are in conditions at all times.” he stated.

“We are also enlightening our members on the need to be of good conduct particularly as the various polls particularly the 2023 election draws near to ensure that none of our members become tool for violence across the country”

Delta Police Arrest Man for Killing Best Friend Over N50 Million Fraud

Delta Police Arrest Man for Killing Best Friend Over N50 Million Fraud

In a chilling twist, a 48-year-old man, Efe Onoetiyi, has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for the brutal murder of his best friend, Paulinus Okon, after defrauding him of over N50 million. The arrest follows an intense investigation that uncovered a web of lies and betrayal between the two men.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, revealed the shocking details of the case during a press briefing on Monday. “This is a particularly painful case,” Olufemi began. “It involves the murder of one Paulinus Okon by his close friend, Efe Onoetiyi.”

Paulinus Okon was reported missing on September 8, 2024, by his brother after he went out with his friend Efe. However, Efe initially denied any involvement in the disappearance. He even visited the Okon family, pretending to be concerned about his friend’s whereabouts.

As the days passed, Efe’s behavior became increasingly suspicious. He demanded N500,000 from Paulinus’s brother, claiming it would be used to hire a herbalist to help locate Paulinus. A short time later, Efe claimed that Paulinus had been kidnapped and went on to collect a ransom of approximately N20.7 million, further deepening the mystery.

Suspicion surrounding Efe grew, and as the investigation intensified, police transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department. A breakthrough came when Okeimute Gaga, 48, was arrested after an intelligence-led probe. Gaga confessed to his role in the crime and revealed the horrifying details of the murder.

Gaga explained how Efe, along with him and two others—Sunday Ikpeba and herbalist Lawrence Joseph—lured Paulinus to the Orere River in Otokutu on the night of September 8, 2024. There, they tied him to a stake and beheaded him before dumping his body into the river. The herbalist then took the victim’s head and buried it at his shrine.

During interrogation, Efe explained his motives for the murder. According to Commissioner Olufemi, Efe revealed that he had convinced Paulinus to invest N30 million in a property deal. However, instead of purchasing the house as promised, Efe diverted the money for personal use, buying land and constructing a duplex for himself.

Fearing the consequences of his deception, Efe confessed that he saw no way to explain his actions to Paulinus. In a shocking act of betrayal, he decided that killing his friend would be the only way to avoid facing the truth.

All four suspects involved in the murder have been arrested and have confessed to their roles in the crime. The victim’s head, which was allegedly used in a sacrificial ritual to the gods of the community, was recovered from the herbalist’s shrine.

Commissioner Olufemi urged the public to remain vigilant, especially during the festive season, and warned about the importance of choosing friends wisely. He lamented that some parents are failing to properly raise their children, especially boys, who may fall prey to harmful influences.

The case serves as a tragic reminder of the lengths to which some individuals will go for personal gain. As investigations continue, the Delta State Police Command has vowed to bring all involved to justice. The community is left shaken by the brutal murder of a man who trusted his best friend, only to become the victim of a horrifying betrayal.
