Asari-Dokubo Urges Diaspora to Invest in Nigeria, Boost Economic Growth

The Da-Amakiri Tubo and Amanyanabo of the Elem Kalabari Kingdom, Abubakr Dokubo-Asari, has made a passionate call for Nigerians in the diaspora to invest in their homeland to foster economic development. Dokubo-Asari delivered this appeal on Sunday in a New Year goodwill message directed at monarchs, chiefs, elites, and the general populace of the Kalabari Kingdom.

“Our people need to come back home to build houses here instead of buying land in other communities. I urge my fellow Kalabari brothers and sisters worldwide to set up businesses here that will boost the economy of the Kalabari Kingdom and provide jobs for our people,” Dokubo-Asari said.

Highlighting the region’s abundant natural resources, he emphasized opportunities in oil and gas, marine transportation, agriculture, tourism, and other potential investment avenues. According to Dokubo-Asari, leveraging these resources could transform the Kalabari Kingdom into an economic hub while addressing unemployment.

In his address, the traditional leader also called on youths to shun cultism and violence, urging them to focus on peaceful and constructive activities that uplift the community. “Our youths must embrace endeavours that promote the well-being of our people instead of engaging in activities that harm others,” he stressed.

Reaffirming his dedication to the fight for resource control and environmental conservation in the Niger Delta, Dokubo-Asari highlighted the importance of unity and sustainable development for the region’s future.

Reflecting on his personal journey, Dokubo-Asari recounted his decision in 2017 to relocate from Port Harcourt to Obuama. He sold all his landed property in the city and reinvested in Obuama, a move he credits with contributing significantly to the community’s growth and transformation. “My investments have played a role in turning Obuama into a vibrant and diverse community,” he noted.

The Amanyanabo’s message has been met with widespread interest, with many viewing it as a rallying cry for the Kalabari Kingdom’s diaspora to participate in the region’s development actively. By investing in local businesses and infrastructure, they can pave the way for a prosperous and self-reliant Kalabari Kingdom.
