The incident which occured on Wednesday night right inside the Palace saw the Eluku of ketuland, Pa Bello escaped death by the whiskers as he battled with the female assailant who had tied an electric wire round the neck of the 80 years old man while he was asleep.

Chief Bello, who was visibly in pained had bandage round his neck as at the time of narrating his near death ordeal, added that the kinship tussle in Ketu Epe land must have been the likely reason that prompted the attempt on his life as aggrieved party are out to cause chaos.

Chief Lateef Bello said he was lying on the bed at around 9pm just few minutes after her daughter left him to her residence when someone entered the room and sat on the bed.

” My daughter had just helped me warm soup and she left for her residence. I lying on the bed when someone entered, sat on the bed, grabbed my neck and put wire round my neck, I began to struggle with the wire with my two hands and at the same time began to shout for help.

All the while there was no light and in the compound the generator being was used to pump water. Luckily for me , the generator went off and people outside were able to hear my cry for help”

Meanwhile, one of the people who came to the rescue of the 90 year old man, a resident of the Palace, Prince Rasheed Adesanya said ” All the time that we are choosing new king, first we would go to court. Currently there is a case in the court between Prince Babajide Adekoya Adefowora and Akeem Oluwo, Agbo Ketu.

The town has chosen Prince Babajide Adekoya Adefowora but Akeem was not satisfied. It is only one ruling house that is entitled to the Alaketu’s throne in ketuland. That is the Esokeji Ateshimara’s ruling house. We have not heard it in the history of Ketuland that the Adetonas ascended the stool.

EFCC boss to Nigerians: Fight against corruption should be collaborative

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has expressed surprise at the attitude of Nigerians who complain of corruption but support corrupt leaders in various ways when they are prosecuted.

EFCC boss to Nigerians: Fight against corruption should be collaborative

Speaking at the weekend in Abuja during a visit by officials of the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), led by Chris Olukolade, the EFCC boss pointed out the contradiction in public attitude, nothing that while Nigerians decry corruption, they often support and defend corrupt leaders when they are prosecuted.

“Everybody is crying that Nigerians are corrupt, that the system is corrupt; that corruption is killing us and destroying our system, but when we investigate high profile cases and arraign people in court, the same people will carry placards and be supporting corrupt leaders.

“It doesn’t show that we are serious about this fight, the fight is supposed to be a collaborative effort,” he said.

Olukoyede noted that the fight against corruption requires collaboration between the government and the citizens, adding that true progress requires collective commitment to integrity and accountability.

He submitted that corruption remains the biggest obstacle to national development.

“One of the major problems in Nigeria which when tackled, will make under-development a thing of the past, is corruption and financial crimes,” he said.

Olukoyede reiterated the EFCC’s commitment to combating financial crimes within the ambit of the law and called for greater public collaboration in the fight against corruption.

The anti-graft agency, he said, will work with the CCC and other like-minded groups to enhance strategic communication and public awareness about integrity and accountability.

OGUN GOVT COMMITTED TO REVAMPING TECHNICAL EDUCATION FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH

Ogun State Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, Tpl. Tunji Odunlami, made this assertion during an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation of the Government Science and Technical College, Ilara-Remo in Remo North Local Government Area, emphasising the importance of vocational education in addressing skill gaps and ensuring a workforce capable of supporting industry development.

Odulami said the state government would work towards upgrading technical colleges to create a more conducive learning environment. He lamented the long-standing neglect of the state’s eight technical colleges, questioning why such vital institutions had not received adequate attention despite their critical role in the education system.

“Vocational education is extremely important. These technical colleges were built many years ago, yet they have suffered neglect. I find it surprising, considering how essential vocational training is to our education system.

“Learning in a dilapidated environment does not inspire or motivate students. That is why the government is taking this bold step to upgrade these facilities and encourage more young people to acquire practical skills,” he added.

Also speaking, the Director-General for Lands and Survey in the State, Mr. Segun Fowora, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the rehabilitation work, noting that similar upgrades were ongoing across other senatorial districts. He assured that modern teaching equipment would be installed upon completion.

In the same vein, Project Manager for the Skills Development Sector, Mr. Fatai Osunsanya, expressed optimism that the project would be completed on schedule, ensuring that students and teachers benefit from the improved infrastructure without delay.

Reacting to the development, Vice Principal (Administration), Miss Abidemi Aderemi, lauded the State Government’s efforts to revamp Technical Education, describing the intervention as a significant boost to both teaching and learning in the State’s Vocational Institutions.
