Police arrest 6 students over forceful barbing of a man’s hair

Jigawa state police command arrests six students for illegally entering a man’s house and forcefully barbing a his hair.

The command Public Relations Officer, ASP Lawan Shiisu, said this in a statement in Dutse on Tuesday.

Shiisu said the suspects were arrested on Aug. 27, after one Ibrahim Sambo of Yalwawa area of Dutse, reported to the police that they had on Aug. 20, illegally entered his house at about 1 a.m. and forcefully barbed his head.

He said that the complainant alleged that he became sick two days after the incident.

“On Aug. 27, at about 1600hrs, one Ibrahim Sambo of Yalwawa quartres of Dutse, reported that on Aug. 20, at about 1000hrs, some students of Federal University Dutse and Jigawa Polytechnic, Dutse, entered his house, restrained him and forcefully barbed his hair and left.

He said that the complainant alleged that he became sick two days after the incident.

The spokesperson added that upon receipt of the complain, police detectives swung into action and arrested the six students aged between 18 and 19 in connection with the offence.

“The suspects, who confessed to the crime, will be charged to court upon completion of investigation,” he said.

Shiisu added that the police have launched a manhunt for the arrest of four other suspects who were at large.

The Management of Federal Polytechnic, Ugep, Cross River State, has issued a formal disclaimer regarding a misleading publication alleging that the House of Representatives panel expressed shock at the institution’s expenditure of over N600 million on personnel and overhead costs despite having only 142 students.
The publication, dated 3rd December 2024, and attributed to “The Whisperer,” an online platform, has been described as false and defamatory by the polytechnic’s management. In a statement signed by the Registrar, Arikpo O. Eno, the institution clarified key facts to dispel the allegations.
FACTS CLARIFIED BY THE INSTITUTION:
Approval and Funding:
The Federal Polytechnic, Ugep, was approved by the Federal Government to serve Cross River State and is strategically located in Ugep to promote regional development.
To facilitate the institution’s establishment, the Federal Government approved a take-off grant of N2 billion. Contrary to claims, no N20 billion was allocated for this purpose.
The management has utilized this grant responsibly, focusing on essential capital projects to ensure a smooth start for the institution.
Staff Recruitment and Personnel Costs:
The Federal Government granted an initial waiver to recruit 154 staff members as take-off personnel.
All personnel costs are managed by the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) Secretariat under the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, ensuring transparency.
The institution has been proactive in promoting enrollment through social media campaigns and other platforms to attract students.
Community Relations:
The management maintains a cordial and mutually respectful relationship with the hospitable people of Ugep, emphasizing collaboration and progress.
Defamatory Content:
The publication contains unverified and defamatory claims intended to tarnish the institution’s reputation.
These statements were made without the management’s knowledge, consent, or verification.

Flash mobs thrilled audiences in the departure lounge, seamlessly blending into the excitement with spontaneous dance routines, while renowned comedian Kenny Black added a dose of laughter, rounding out a perfect evening that set the tone for the celebrations ahead.

The Christmas Festival, a first-of-its-kind event in Nigeria, is a collaboration that underscores the power of partnerships—an embodiment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 17.
