Family, friends and fans of popular Yoruba broadcaster and Master of Ceremonies (MC), Soji Omotayo, should be thanking God for his life by now. Why? The print journalist turned broadcaster who likes to address himself as Baaroyin Apede Ara on his programmes both on radio and television was few days back, only a microsecond away from death! He was not involved in an auto crash, nor was he struck by a strange ailment, he was in deed, sentenced to death by machetting in a jungle justice by a man he knew so well as friend and business associate who goes by the name,Kunle Kushimo Agarawu (a car dealer and socialite).

According to a startling revelation on last Friday, 4th September, 2015, edition of a radio programme which airs on Faaji 106.5 fm on Fridays between 10pm to 12am called “Mimi Aye” (The Vicissitudes of Life) and presented by Otunba Yemi Odunodu, Soji Omotayo was a victim of a well orchestrated evil plan which was carried out almost successfully before succour came the way of the lanky independent presenter.

Reportedly, the issue all began with a frantic phone calls to the phone line of Soji Omotayo on Saturday, 22nd August, 2015, by Agarawu which the former was not picking because he was not with his phone. But Soji Omotayo’s Personal Assistant (P.A.), a young lady, who was also in his house on that day later picked the call and Agarawu asked for her boss whom the P.A. said was resting at the time. Agarawu then told the P.A. to tell Soji Omotayo to call him as soon as he woke up because there was a business to be discussed.

And when Soji Omotayo later called Agarawu, he urged Soji Omotayo to see him at his house at Oju-Ore in Ota very early the next day over an MC job he just got for him and Soji Omotayo assured him he would squeeze the time to come before going to Church on the appointed Sunday, 23 August, 2015.

Meanwhile, Soji Omotayo then instructed his P.A. who was already preparing to go to her own parents’ house in Abaranje, Ikotun, to stay over for the night in the guest room in his flat so they could go see Agarawu together the next morning. He assured the P.A. he would drop her off at Iyana-Ipaja when going to Church after meeting with Agarawu.

And by 6am the next day, Soji Omotayo whose recorded interview with the presenter of the programme was played during the programme to add credence to the story said Agarawu’s phone call was what woke him up at the dawn of the next day.

But in his usual manner, according to Soji Omotayo, he would not talk to anybody so early in the morning until he has prayed. So he said he woke up his wife so they could pray together and after the prayer, he called back Agarawu and Agarawu told him he only wanted to remind him of their meeting because it was very important.

Hence, with his P.A., Soji Omotayo got into his car and headed straight for Agarawu’s house on that fateful Sunday morning and he said Agarawu called him desperately about three times while on the way to monitor his movement but he did not suspect anything untoward.

He added that when he parked in front of his gate, he called Agarawu to inform him that he was at his gate and Agarawu came out promptly to open the gate and asked him to drive in as they could not be discussing outside. Soji Omotayo said when he parked in the compound, Agarawu led him and his P.A. to his sitting room, locked the door behind them, then asked Soji Omotayo if his wife was still in the country as she is based in London.

Soji Omotayo responded that his wife who is generally called “Iya Okiki” was still in the country and Agarawu asked Soji Omotayo to call her as he would like to say hello to “Iya Okiki”. When Soji Omotayo put a call through to his wife, he handed the phone to Agarawu and then Agarawu reportedly told the woman that he had just lured her husband to his death because he had just discovered that Soji Omotayo was sleeping with his own wife and he would be machetting him to death!

And before the stunned Soji Omotayo could say Jack Robinson, Agarawu reportedly raised up the top of his dress to pull out a razor sharp cutlass tucked into his trousers and aimed a stroke at Soji Omotayo’s head. But fortunately for Soji Omotayo, there was an antidote to cutlass attack on him and he was able to quickly block the cutlass with his hand and the cutlass bounced back.

“Haha, ise wa lara e…”(So you have juju) Was what Agarawu was quoted as saying when he realised the cutlass would not cut his victim. And knowing that if he was able to hit Soji Omotayo’s head with a stroke of the cutlass, the antidote would be neutrslised once there was blood, so he kept targeting the head with multiple strokes and Soji Omotayo kept blocking till Agarawu was finally able to get a stroke on his head which was attended by gushing out of blood from Soji Omotayo’s head.

Meanwhile, Agarawu had pushed Soji Omotayo’s P.A. out of the sitting room when she was trying to prevent him from hitting Soji Omotayo with the cutlass before relocking the door, so it was just him and Soji Omotayo inside. And Soji Omotayo kept mustering all the energy still left in him to struggle with Agarawu as the “butcher” kept machetting different parts of his body with the cutlass with attendant bleeding.

And when it got to a point that Agarawu thought Soji Omotayo had become too weak on the floor and in a pool of his own blood, he opened the door to attack his own wife as well who was part of the people pleading with him from the window to leave Soji Omotayo alone. And as soon as Agarawu got out,Soji Omotayo said he struggled to reach the door and locked himself inside so that Agarawu would not be able to return to finish him up.

Though, Agarawu as presumed by Soji Omotayo, made frantic effort to return to him inside after his wife had taken to her heels for her dear life, and that was when a detachment of police alerted by some of Agarawu’s neighbours arrived.

They rushed Soji Omotayo to the hospital for immediate medical attention as he was losing too much blood already and Agarawu was locked up that morning only to be released later in the afternoon. As at the time the radio programme ended, Agarawu was said to be nowhere to be found as he had reportedly ran away. But thankfully, Soji Omotayo’s life was saved by the prompt medical attention and he was able to live to tell the horrifying story.

Meanwhile, independent findings by this blog have revealed that Agarawu is currently claiming he has convincing photographic evidence to the effect that there was truly an unholy affair between his wife and Soji Omotayo.

Tiwa Savage Reveals Divorce Struggles: “It Made Me Depressed and Turned Me Into the ‘African Bad Girl'”

Nigerian music sensation Tiwa Savage has opened up about her turbulent divorce from Tunji “TeeBillz” Balogun, sharing deeply personal insights about the emotional toll it took on her life and career.

Tiwa Savage Reveals Divorce Struggles: "It Made Me Depressed and Turned Me Into the 'African Bad Girl'"

Speaking candidly on The Receipts Podcast, the 44-year-old Afrobeat star reflected on the heartbreak of her 2018 separation, which she revealed was exacerbated by her struggles with postpartum depression and public backlash.

“I Was Nigeria’s Sweetheart”
Tiwa described how her rise to fame was met with widespread admiration, as she followed what she called the “perfect path” of societal expectations.

“When I started, I was Nigeria’s sweetheart. I could do no wrong. I went to university, got married, had a baby — everything by the book. But then everything came crashing down, and I became the target of criticism,” she said.

The separation, which TeeBillz announced online, marked a turning point in Tiwa’s life. Despite not initiating the breakup, she recalled being vilified in the media and by the public.

“I Was Told I’d Never Win”

Tiwa revealed how the overwhelming criticism pushed her into a dark place. “At the time, my baby was just a few months old, and I was already dealing with postpartum depression. My body wasn’t the same, and I was depressed. But instead of support, people attacked me,” she shared.

After attempting to tell her side of the story in a public interview, she faced even more backlash.

“People said, ‘How dare you go and talk? You’re a woman, and you’re supposed to hold the home together.’ Famous people called to tell me I’d never win, and it was my fault because I was a woman. It was heartbreaking,” Tiwa recounted.

Reinvention as the “African Bad Girl”
The constant criticism and emotional pain led Tiwa to transform her image and embrace a bolder persona.

“It made me depressed for so long, but it also made me angry. I thought to myself, ‘If I did everything right and still got attacked, why should I bother?’ That’s when I became the ‘African Bad Girl,’” she said.

Tiwa explained how she began to rebel against societal norms, opting for tattoos, shorter skirts, and bikinis. “I was just wild. It was my way of coping and reclaiming control of my life after being judged for so long,” she added.

Despite the challenges, Tiwa’s resilience and reinvention have made her an enduring icon in the global music scene, solidifying her place as a trailblazer in African entertainment.

The revelations highlight not only the personal cost of fame but also the cultural pressures that women in the spotlight often endure. Through it all, Tiwa continues to inspire, proving that reinvention is a powerful tool for survival and success.

*Aliu Gafar delivers stellar performance as Esusu in Femi Adebayo’s Seven Doors*

By Rtn. Victor Ojelabi

The much-anticipated movie series Seven Doors by Femi Adebayo has finally premiered, currently showing on Netflix, captivating audiences with its intricate storytelling and compelling characters.

The movie begins with a haunting scene of seven women under a mysterious spell leaping to their deaths from a waterfall, setting the tone for a gripping tale that unravels in Ilara Kingdom.

The series explores various societal issues, including corruption, greed, gluttony, family values, malicious conspiracies, and the delicate balance of law and order.

Central to its plot is the calamitous fate of Oba Adedunjoye, the Onilara of Ilara, whose failure to perform traditional rites—symbolised by knocking on seven doors—unleashes devastating consequences on his kingdom.

At the heart of this chaos is Esusu, a malevolent and exiled villain whose return wreaks havoc.

Eledumare o ni ika, ika ni Esusu

The character of Esusu, pivotal to the story’s depth, is masterfully brought to life by Aliu Gafar.

Gafar’s first appearance, late in Episode 2, immediately shifts the narrative, introducing a chilling force that spares no one, not even the royal family. His commanding portrayal encapsulates the essence of Esusu, a man whose wickedness defies comprehension.

The backstory reveals Esusu’s sinister pact with Ọba Adejuwọn, an ancestor of Adedunjoye.

Desperation led Adejuwon to seek Esusu’s help to evade death—a move that came at an unthinkable cost, forgetting that bi alọ ba lọ, abọ nbọ (a pendulum that swings to is still coming to swing fro).

Esusu’s return demanded not only royal treatment but the freedom to live as he pleased, challenging the very fabric of the kingdom.

Gafar embodies this complex character with remarkable precision, delivering a performance that is both chilling and unforgettable.

With almost two decades in Nollywood, Aliu Gafar has solidified his reputation as a versatile and dedicated actor.

His extensive filmography includes acclaimed productions such as Jagun Jagun, Anikulapo, Iyalode, Eefin, and Omo Ajele.

The Yoruba actor has also garnered accolades for his work, including the Best Actor award at the Dallas International Yoruba Movies Awards for his role in Peregun.

His commitment to the industry and his talent for captivating performances continue to make him a force to be reckoned with in Nollywood.

In Seven Doors, Gafar’s nuanced performance as Esusu elevates the series, demonstrating his ability to command attention and bring depth to a complex narrative.

His contribution to the Nigerian film industry remains invaluable, and his portrayal of Esusu is a testament to his enduring excellence.
