Taraba Election : Why NNPP Candidate, Prof Sani Yahaya Is Wasting His Time Going To Court

Published

on

The candidate of the NNPP in the Taraba governorship election that held last week, Prof Sani Yahaya has vowed to ‘reclaim his stolen’ mandate in court after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared PDP’s Agbu Kefas as the winner of the election.

While there is absolutely nothing wrong in going to court for legal redress of an election issue, there is need for Prof Sani Yahya to know that the victory of Agbu Kefas cannot be overturned because there is no grounds for such.

Prof Sani Yahya, as classified information has it was sponsored to run in the election by powers that be and there is no other reason for that apart from a strategy to ruin the chances of Agbu Kefas in the election. As a matter of fact, the delay in the result declaration was as a result of interference of those who sponsored Prof Sani Yahya to contest in the election.

Agbu Kefas faced different challenges before he won the election; his stand as the PDP candidate was greatly challenged up till the supreme court level which he won, there were division in his party against his candidacy and ordinarily, this should have led to his loss in the election but he rose above all to become victorious. Ever since he got the ticket to run, different campaign of calumny have risen up against him and Prof Sani Yahya was supposed to be the ice-breaker but unfortunately, the plans didn’t materialize.

The election even after collation was concluded took hours to be announced because of the issues that arose from the powers that sponsored Prof Sani Yahaya and at a point, security operatives had to tackle one another, leading to the death of two officers. It was indeed a terrible time for Taraba all because someone wants to forcefully take power.

Sincerely, if there is anyone that should go to court, it definitely has to be Agbu Kefas because his votes were seriously stolen. Kefas was leading his closest opponent with over 100,000 votes before the foul play trickled in. His votes were cut short and at the end of the day, He led with about 50,000 votes against all odds.

Now that Kefas has been declared winner, another strategy of the detractors is to make use of the court to upturn the election results but sadly, it will not happen. When INEC declared Agbu Kefas, there was no mention of over-voting or margin of lead issue, how then would Prof Sani Yahaya perform any magic? Absolutely no way. No doubt, going to court will lead to nowhere.

Speaking to newsmen today during a press briefing in Gbagada, Lagos, the DG reiterated that the customs should be held responsible for the lingering and persistent security threat that has crippled and ravaged the nation “nobody should blame president Tinubu for insecurity, the Nigeria Customs is responsible for it,they mortgaged the peace and happiness of the country, the Nigerian Customs have an organised crime system, they do a lot of dubious and shady deals and nobody watches over them ,we must be truthful and tackle the problem of insecurity from the root, it’s the customs that allowed several arms and ammunitions to enter the country and they pretend not to be aware, without the customs allowing arms to infiltrate the country, there will be no insecurity, Nigeria is in this terrible situation because of the customs.

He advised the president to reform the customs in order to have a genuine and sincere fight against insecurity “the major solution to the insecurity in Nigeria is customs reform,I can tell you emphatically,if not that, any fight against insecurity will never be meaningful or fruitful,if the customs decide to work effectively, insecurity will reduce drastically ”
