TB Joshua Named The ‘Yoruba Man Of The Decade’

This is indeed a rare feat for Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua who has been named the Yoruba Man of The Decade. A record no other clergy has achieved.

NPG x171537,Obafemi Awolowo,by BassanoTHE sage and founder of the modern Yoruba nation, Chief Obafemi Awolowo has been named as the Yoruba Man of the century. The announcement made on Thursday by Irohin Oodua, the pan-Yoruba media online also listed Professor Wole Soyinka and Pastor TB Joshua as outstanding Yoruba personalities that have made unequalled contributions to the upliftment of the glory and grandeur of the Yoruba people.

While Pastor TB Joshua was named as the Yoruba Man of the Decade, Professor Wole Soyinka was listed as the Yoruba Man of the Year 2014 in what represents the group’s maiden edition.  Irohin Odua describes Professor Soyinka as a “stainless steel and the most righteous of the living Yoruba faithful.”

The statement was signed by the Editorial Board Chairman of Irohin Odua, Prince Babatunde Adeleke. IrohinOdua was established as the first pan-Yoruba news medium with an outreach of over half a million of mostly Yoruba people across the world.

According to the statement, the three personalities were selected after a careful consideration of the role each had played in the annals of Yoruba modern history regarding placing the Yoruba on the positive angle of global reckoning.

Eulogizing Pastor TB Joshua, Prince Adeleke said, “amazing is the testimony of boost up from Nigeria and across the world by the poor, the rich; the haves and the have-nots, the high and low, but most astonishingly, people of all faith in Africa, Asia, America and across Europe, even in the remotest, hilly and isolated Islands that dot the great rivers and tributaries of the Pacific Ocean.”

He said that Pastor T.B Joshua had brought honour to his people, the Yoruba, perhaps, in measures inestimable.  Irohin odua stated “he began his ministerial career at a swampy location in Ikotun Egbe, Lagos. Today, this ancestral origin of the Synagogue has transformed from a dingy wasteland into a local Disneyland drawing, in one year, millions of visitors to Nigeria from Africa, Europe, the Middle East and America.”

According to Adeleke, through tonnes of email correspondents sent to Irohin Odua, Pastor Joshua received commendations for his meritorious services to mankind. He stated “We see in his handiwork, a quiet revolution to transform the world in ways unimaginable. Since we blew the whistle for nomination, we have received incalculable, baffling testimonials from royals and ordinary street folks leading us to a hidden light in a dark, malicious world where the poor remain the dreg and the end butt of repression, neglect and perpetual want.”

The statement noted further that “the Yoruba has a long, cherished history. In the early part of the 9th Century, we had an organised system of government. By 10th century, the Yoruba already had a city state, Ile-Ife, which flourished through the golden ages. Our forebears exchanged trade with Europe and the Middle East, as far back as the 11th  century. We are a proud nation that has produced icons over generations. We had produced men and women in peace and war time; icons in the field of trade and commerce. In the 18th century, spurred by technology and the art espoused in war,  Ogedengbe, the Ekiti-Ijesha war general was invited to England for a state visit by the King of England.

It added “every generation brings forth, like a star never to dim, icons that stand tall like a colossus.”

From Rejection to Record-Breaker: LASU’s Best Graduating Student Thought She Had Failed in Life

From Rejection to Record-Breaker: LASU’s Best Graduating Student Thought She Had Failed in Life

In an inspiring twist of fate, Miss Isioma Nwosu, who once believed she had failed in life after missing out on her dream course, emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Student of Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2023/2024 academic session with an astounding CGPA of 4.93.

Nwosu, a graduate of Biochemistry, captivated the audience with her moving valedictory speech at LASU’s 28th Convocation Ceremony, held at the university’s main campus in Ojo.

“I thought I had failed in life,” she confessed, recounting the heartbreak of not gaining admission to study Medicine and Surgery—her lifelong ambition.

After finishing secondary school as her set’s valedictorian in 2019, Nwosu faced a major blow: she scored just two points below the cut-off mark to study Medicine at the University of Ibadan. The setback forced her to retake UTME, a decision she said left her humiliated and defeated.

“A valedictorian writing UTME again? It was a bitter pill to swallow,” she recalled.

When she eventually reapplied to study Medicine and Surgery—this time at LASU—fate again dealt her a curveball. She was offered Biochemistry, a course she admitted she had “never heard of” until that moment.

“My heart broke a second time. I couldn’t embrace the course at first,” she said.

But through perseverance, and the encouragement of her lecturers and friends, Isioma not only embraced Biochemistry—she excelled beyond all expectations, finishing top of a graduating class of 11,917 students.

“Dreams Can Be Delayed, Not Denied”

In a stirring message to fellow graduates and aspiring students, Nwosu urged young people not to abandon their dreams in the face of rejection or redirection.

“Never be afraid of having big dreams. Your dreams are the seeds of greatness. You are resilient, capable, and prepared for the future,” she said.

She also stressed the importance of surrounding oneself with “friends of value, vision, and ambition.”

VC Urges Graduates to Shape Their Legacy

In her address, LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, praised the class of 2023/2024, reminding them that they hold the pen to write the next chapter of their lives.

“You’ve demonstrated excellence in both character and learning. Now use that knowledge to drive meaningful change,” she charged.

The university awarded diplomas, degrees, and certificates across various disciplines, celebrating not just academic success but stories of resilience and transformation—none more powerful than that of Isioma Nwosu, who turned disappointment into distinction.
