Youths canvass for investments in Ijede
…laud steady power supply

Ijede/Egbin youths have identified the provision of steady power supply in the area as a major step towards attracting investments to the region because it’s part of what we worked for,for the rebirth and are ready to unveil the new name.

The group also promised to worked for the rebirth and unity of Ijede nation, describing this as panacea to the nation’s growth and development.

Prince Olumide Musediq, coordinator of the Ijede/Egbin Youth Forum, disclosed this while giving a scorecard of the forum’s activities and subsequent unveiled the New as Ijede LCDA Unified Youths Forum,with the Motto, beyond personal ambition.

While thanking God for the achievements of the forum thus far, Comrade Musediq described it as a duly-registered pressure group, with mission to re-orient its people and nation towards a self-sustaining, profitable and glorious future.

“Today, we are here to celebrate success, and to discuss about our community development. This is to inform the world that Ijede LCDA is good for investors.

“Presently, we now have steady power supply; we have been working on that for over four years, now we are happy and enjoying it,” he noted.

In a bid to meet its set goals and make Ijede more conducive for investments, the youth leader said it was mindful of the need to unify all the youth, stakeholders, even those abroad.

“We are soliciting more support from the community; there was a time there was some misinterpretation in our objectives, but thank God people now understand better. We want both moral and financial support and most of Ijede people in diaspora to come support us,” he added.

Prince Adebowale Sodiq, the guest speaker, also a lecturer at the Lagos State University (LASU), expressed appreciation concerning government’s efforts in revamping the power sector, particularly in the area.

He noted that while it is right for the energy regulatory body to bill its customers, but not to the extent of charging the masses outrageously without acknowledging them as the host community.

He continued: “As the host community, we are not asking for free services, only that they should charge according to the services they render to us, not more than what we are using.

“Being the host community we should be responsible for the community, because they are a lot of people who sacrificed for us to be the community we are today.

“As a pressure group, when the government is doing something good, let’s try to appreciate it. When we have information, let us follow due process and proper channels in offering solution to the government by writing letters, even when they are not willing to listen to us.”

Sodiq explained that being pressure group does not mean to be anti-government, but those that “will provide the right information to the government because they are the grassroot level that are to guide the government policies to enhance freedom of speech.”

Chairman of the occasion, Prince Ademola Olutosin, in his welcome speech, urged the youths to remain trustworthy in their pursuit to upgrade the standard of living in the community.

“This denomination has been a significant tool for a favourable modification in Ijede LCDA, and I crave youths around this region to key into their tenacity and unified strength,” he stated.

Olutosin also pleaded with the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration to look towards fixing the Ijede road, after the actualisation of the Agura-Gberigbe thoroughfare which is currently under construction.

Also, the Director, Information and Public Relations,Lagos State University Of Science And Technology Olanrewaju Kuye commended the youth forum for giant strides achieved in the last four years, particularly in managing to bring Ijede youths together “because they worked as a team.”

Kuye, while urging the youths not to quit agitating for the betterment of the community, further advised that they stay focused and united if they want to realise their goal.

Special dignitaries that graced the occasion include High Chiefs Aliu Musediq, Regent of Ijede kingdom; Aliu Ogunmuyiwa, Odofin Alajede of Ijede; Bello Adetona, Otunba of Egbin kingdom and Otunba of Emiren kingdom.

In a country where road accidents claim thousands of lives each year—most of them young people—the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Edutainment First International have launched a bold new initiative to change the narrative. On Thursday, August 14, both organizations hosted the maiden Road Safety Youth Hangout at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja.

The event, held to mark United Nations International Youth Day 2025, brought together more than 300 participants, including members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), students, youth leaders, and community representatives. Unlike traditional road safety campaigns, the hangout was designed as an interactive forum blending education and entertainment, where young Nigerians could learn, innovate, and commit to safer road practices.

 

 

According to FRSC data, young people remain the most vulnerable demographic in road traffic crashes across Nigeria—an urgent concern this initiative aims to tackle. Through storytelling, innovation, and collaborative problem-solving, the Road Safety Youth Hangout sought to transform young Nigerians into advocates for safety within their communities.

 

 

“This is not just about rules and regulations,” said one of the organizers. “It’s about equipping young people with the tools and the voice to change Nigeria’s road culture.”

 

Aligned with the UN’s 2025 theme, “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” the program underscored the critical role of young Nigerians in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those connected to health, safety, and responsible citizenship.

 

 

By focusing on empowerment rather than enforcement, FRSC and Edutainment First International signaled a fresh approach to road safety: investing in the next generation as the real drivers of change. The belief is simple yet powerful—an informed and empowered youth population is key to reducing accidents and saving lives.

 

 

For many participants, the hangout was more than just an event; it was a wake-up call. With interactive sessions infused with music, drama, and dialogue, young Nigerians were challenged to reflect on their daily habits as road users and to embrace leadership as advocates for safer communities.

 

 

As one youth participant reflected:

“Road safety isn’t just the job of the FRSC. It’s our responsibility too—because we are the ones most at risk.”

 

The maiden edition of the Road Safety Youth Hangout may have ended, but the movement it launched has only just begun. Its message was unmistakable: Nigeria’s fight for safer roads must be youth-led, collaborative, and relentless.
