Yuletide: NASRE Extends Welfare Support To Media Practitioners, Families

The Nigerian Association of Social and Resourceful Editors (NASRE) has held its final outreach programme for the year, tagged “Yuletide Outreach / Get-Together,” offering comfort, support, and a sense of togetherness to families of media practitioners in Lagos.

The event took place at The City Pulse Lounge, LTV8, Agidingbi, Ikeja, and featured a warm, family-friendly atmosphere marked by interaction and informal engagement between NASRE leaders and beneficiaries.

At the outreach, the association formally accommodated five new beneficiaries and extended support to 10 existing beneficiaries, with the gathering designed as an interactive session rather than a ceremonial event. The programme also attracted over 10 media colleagues from various media organisations, who witnessed what many described as a unique family fun fair within the media community.

Speaking on behalf of the President of NASRE, Comrade Femi Oyewale, the Event Committee Chairman, Mr. Adebayo Adetu, conveyed the President’s goodwill and Yuletide message to beneficiaries and guests. He reaffirmed the association’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of media practitioners and their families, particularly during challenging periods, while urging members to continue fostering unity, compassion, and mutual support within the profession.

As part of the outreach, Rite Foods Limited also extended its support by providing its products to beneficiaries, a gesture that further complemented the association’s welfare drive and added value to the festive gathering.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Esther Thomas, widow of late veteran entertainment journalist Peter Thomas, popularly known as “The Groove Master,” expressed deep appreciation to NASRE for its consistency and compassion. Peter Thomas, who passed away on November 25, 2021, was a respected figure in the Nigerian entertainment media space.

The late journalist worked with notable publications including Fame Magazine, Global Excellence, THISDAY and The Punch, and played a significant role in shaping the careers of several Nigerian music stars. Through impactful write-ups and strategic publicity, he contributed to the rise of artistes such as Don Jazzy and D’Banj (Mo’Hits Crew), P-Square, K1 De Ultimate, Pasuma, Atawewe, KCee, Atorise and Presh, Yinka Best, among others.

According to Mrs. Thomas, NASRE was the first and only media association to visit her family after her husband’s demise and later returned with even greater support. She described the gesture as rare and reassuring, noting that the association’s interventions demonstrated genuine concern for the welfare of its members and their families.

Another beneficiary, Mrs. Aponmade, widow of late Kayode Aponmade, also expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of herself and her children.

“On behalf of myself and my children, we say a big thank you to NASRE for making today’s get-together a memorable one. The money you described as a token has gone a long way for us. May God continue to elevate you all in your endeavours. We are truly grateful,” she said.

A newly admitted beneficiary, Mr. Adeshola Akeem, a weekend reporter with The Sun, applauded the initiative, describing it as reassuring and encouraging. He said the outreach reinforced the idea that beyond professional engagements, there exists a supportive network of colleagues who function as friends and family, always ready to look out for one another.

Another beneficiary, Mrs. Dapo Oshin, commended NASRE for its support and called for greater attention to educational assistance, noting that support for children at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels would provide lasting relief to affected families. She described the initiative as thoughtful and impactful, with long-term benefits for beneficiaries.

The programme ended on a note of gratitude and shared commitment to sustaining welfare-focused initiatives that strengthen bonds within the media profession.

NASRE, the Nigerian Association of Social and Resourceful Editors, is a professional body of media practitioners across print, broadcast, and digital platforms, dedicated to collaboration, innovation, capacity development, and the promotion of welfare and sustainable growth within Nigeria’s media industry.

THE BURATAI CONUNDRUM: A STRATEGIC DISSERVICE TO NATIONAL INTEREST

THE BURATAI CONUNDRUM: A STRATEGIC DISSERVICE TO NATIONAL INTEREST

By Femi Oyewale

In the arduous task of national stewardship—where every available resource must be intelligently deployed—a profound paradox persists. At a moment demanding consolidated strategic wisdom, one of Nigeria’s most formidable instruments of stability, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd), remains conspicuously absent from the formal architecture of governance. This omission is not a benign oversight; it is a serious lapse in strategic judgment—a failure to deploy a tool forged in the crucible of the nation’s most complex security challenges.
THE BURATAI CONUNDRUM: A STRATEGIC DISSERVICE TO NATIONAL INTEREST

By Femi Oyewale
General Buratai’s value is demonstrable, not sentimental. His tenure as Chief of Army Staff marked a defining transformation of the Nigerian Army, shaping the structures, doctrines, and operational posture still being relied upon to confront existential threats. He possesses an intimate, lived understanding of Nigeria’s security machinery—its capacities, rhythms, and institutional psychology—that cannot be replicated through briefing notes or intelligence reports alone. Beyond the battlefield, his service as Ambassador to the Republic of Benin further affirmed his strategic depth, successfully navigating the critical intersection of diplomacy and security in addressing cross-border smuggling and insurgent logistics. He has delivered credibly in two of the most demanding theatres of statecraft.
The cost of this neglect is both tangible and corrosive. It leaves unfilled a space where his seasoned counsel could illuminate security blind spots with tested, actionable alternatives. It squanders the deep reservoir of trust and credibility he commands within the northern political and security establishment—a bridge of goodwill essential for national cohesion. More troublingly, it sends a disquieting signal to the institutions he helped build: that exhaustive service to the nation may ultimately culminate in strategic sidelining.
We must interrogate the roots of this oversight. It is difficult to ignore the influence of whispered campaigns by individuals who, driven by vendetta or rivalry, persistently cast this patriot in dark hues before the ears of power. Let it be stated plainly: those who continue to demonize General Buratai do not mean well for this government, nor for Nigeria. They traffic in past grievances at the expense of future stability, prioritizing old scores over national survival.
Gen. Buratai Reveals Why Tinubu is Right on ECOWAS Standby Force
This is more than a miscalculation; in the present dispensation, it borders on a fatal error. At a time when insecurity festers and diplomacy requires a master’s touch, leaving a seasoned general on the bench defies the most basic logic of governance. It amounts to strategic self-sabotage.
This appeal is therefore one of conscientious patriotism: bring General Buratai in from the cold. Engage him for what he is—an invaluable national asset—whether as a senior adviser, special envoy, or chair of a critical national committee. Such a move would signal leadership that is confident, wise, and ruthlessly pragmatic. To persist in his exclusion is to willfully complicate the already herculean task of steering Nigeria toward peace and prosperity. The nation cannot afford such a luxury.

E-Buzz : Donna Adja Enters A New Career Phase With Arems Entertainment, Spotlighting “No Forks Trap”

Nigerian singer and performer Donna Adja is entering a more focused and structured chapter of her career, aligning long-earned experience with renewed industry momentum. The Delta State–born artist, now based in California, has officially partnered with Arems Entertainment for bookings, engagements, and professional representation — a move that signals a deliberate push toward scale, consistency, and wider visibility.

As part of this phase, Donna Adja is spotlighting “No Forks Trap,” a standout record from her recent catalogue, as she sharpens her positioning in the global Afrobeats space.

Donna’s musical journey began early, rooted in church performances from the age of 15. By 22, she had committed fully to music as a profession, developing not only her voice but her instincts as a songwriter and performer. Her first major industry exposure came through collaborations as a featured vocalist with established Nigerian artists including Solid Star, Harrysong, Dezign, and others — experiences that shaped her approach to both studio work and professional collaboration.

That foundation soon expanded into live performance at scale. Donna went on to form and lead her own 14-piece live band, Daz Entertainment, which became the in-house band at the Sheraton Lagos Hotel. Performing up to five nights a week over several years, the residency became a defining period, cementing her reputation as a commanding live act. During this run, Donna and her band performed for two Nigerian presidents, while she also delivered solo shows across the United Kingdom, Dubai, and Australia.

As a solo artist, her profile continued to grow. Donna received coverage in leading Nigerian publications including Vanguard and The Sun, while her music found rotation on MTV Base Africa and other major stations. Singles such as “Shut Up” and “Gaga” became notable radio records in Nigeria, reinforcing her presence beyond the stage.

Relocating to the United States marked another evolution. Rather than reset her identity, Donna expanded it — releasing music that reflected both her African roots and global environment. Tracks like “I Like Your Body,” which has surpassed one million views on YouTube, alongside releases such as “Breathe” and “Oghene Do,” showcased an artist comfortable blending Afrobeat, Afropop, R&B, and soul into music built for international audiences.

Now, under the professional representation of Arems Entertainment, Donna Adja is entering what may be her most structured phase yet. The partnership centralises bookings, brand collaborations, media engagements, and live appearances, allowing her to focus more fully on music creation and performance.

Within this renewed push, “No Forks Trap” stands as a confident, street-leaning Afrobeats record that captures Donna’s versatility and performance energy. The song forms part of her No Forks Series, a creative run highlighting edge, individuality, and rhythmic authority — reinforcing her ability to move fluidly between African influence and contemporary global sound.

Beyond music, Donna Adja remains deeply involved in her visual and performance presentation, often designing and creating her own stage costumes. This hands-on approach underscores her identity as a complete artist, where sound, image, and performance move in sync.

In an industry increasingly driven by structure as much as talent, Donna Adja’s alignment with Arems Entertainment reflects experience rather than urgency. With a catalogue that continues to grow and a focused campaign around key records like “No Forks Trap,” she is positioning herself for sustained visibility and deeper industry engagement.
