A 52-year-old cobbler, Tope Ogunmodede, has committed suicide by hanging himself in Akure, the Ondo State capital, weekend.
Report said the deceased, who had been having a mental health challenge, took his own life out of frustration at Lafe area of Akure.
Vanguard gathered that the family of Tope had been battling with his health challenges for 32 years.
He was supposed to have gone for his routine medical check up last Thursday but had to be shifted to today because of the Eid-el-Kabir holiday.
The deceased, who had been staying on the same room with the mother because of his health challenge, was reportedly left at home alone on the day he committed suicide.
It was gathered that the mother, identified as Comfort, left the house for an urgent personal engagement only to return hours later to behold the dangling body of his son.
The mother was said to have been suspicious that something bad had happened when she got back home and failed to meet his sick son in his usual seat.
Eyewitness account said the mother searched the rooms in the house until she saw his dangling body in one of the rooms.
She was said to have raised alarm which attracted the attention of neighbours who came over to help her bring down the corpse from its dangling position.
A family member said that so much money had been expended on the psychiatric patient by the family to no avail.
He described the death of Tope as very painful and unfortunate, after so much money had been spent on the ailment.
Contacted, Police spokesman in the state, Wole Ogodo, confirmed that police detectives had visited the scene of the incident and taken photographs of the deceased.
Ogodo, who said that no foul play was suspected, added that the corpse had been deposited at Akure Specialist Hospital.
