Threat to life from Fulani bandits: Gbenga Adelusi flees to escape being tortured, potential death

…Loose’s biological mother, Mrs,Oyinlola Majeyagbe Adelusi to Eruku Bandits Church attack

Gbenga Adelusi, a distinguished son of ErukuCity in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria, is a notable figure with a dark complexion. He is married to Mrs. Funke Ogundoyin Adelusi and is blessed with three children.

On November 30, 2025, Gbenga Adelusi took advantage of an available flight to escape to Ireland due to threats to his life posed by radical Fulani Islamic extremists in Kwara State, Nigeria.

The tumult started on Sunday, November 11th, 2025, when bandits made their first incursion into Eruku community, sparking a tragic loss of lives and the incineration of the Eruku Vigilantes’ Hilux vehicles, with communities seized by anxiety over the Kwara State government’s failure to ensure its citizens’ security as promised during the political campaign

Eruku community experienced another invasion attempt on November 13, 2025, when Chief Agbana was reportedly kidnapped by bandits, triggering sporadic gunshots and prompting the abrupt closure of two secondary schools in the area to ensure student safety amid heightened insecurity.

The worst-case scenario took place on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 6:15 p.m. in Eruku community, during the course of a seven-day CAC church revival. This unfortunate event caused the untimely demise of my mother, Mrs. Oyinlola Majeyagbe Adelusi, and three other notable individuals from the Eruku community.

Alaja, the Church security would have likely received support from the limited number of local hunters and vigilantes on hand, but they were reportedly without ammunition. Several police officers on the scene fled to safety and later returned around 8 pm to deploy tear gas and disperse the crowd. One of the bandits, who had climbed a tree to conduct surveillance, spotted Tunde Asaba fleeing through the Church back door and shot him dead, just like the others. The CAC Church offices experienced a forced break-in, resulting in the theft of worshippers’ phones and other valuable items.

The Fulani bandits subjected aged men and women to severe physical abuse, using sticks and cutlasses, and apparently declined to take them into the bushes, considering their fragile health.

How Did the Journey of the 38 Abductees into the Dense Forest, which Resulted in the Untimely Death of My Biological Mother, Mrs. Oyinlola Majeyagbe Adelusi, Begin?

An open letter sent to the traditional ruler and the community’s council of chiefs carried a dire warning that the Fulani bandits, motivated by their Islamic agenda, would eradicate the entire Eruku community unless its youth abandoned their current faith for Islam, thereby imperiling the lives of the young population

On that Tuesday evening, a distressing occurrence befell the Eruku community, as about 38 of its distinguished sons and Daughters, including young children, were kidnapped from the CAC Church and taken into the nearby forest. They started this lengthy journey on Tuesday evening, embarking on an uninterrupted overnight trek from Eruku through Isapa than to Oko Loke to Ndanaku on the pathway to Isapa the neighboring community Having walked them continuously through a dense forest before their rescue on Sunday, 23 November 2025, signified a total of five days spent in the camp.

Our Monday Editor was informed by a reliable source close to the family of Oyinlola Majeyagbe Adelusi, who fell victim to the Eruku community Fulani bandit attack, that Gbenga Adelusi and family were amongst the targeted youth threatened to be converted to the Islamic religion within the community, this led to his prompt fleeing from the Eruku community on Sunday, November 30th, 2025.

As the threat to life became increasingly unmanageable, Gbenga Adelusi departed from the Eruku community on Friday 28th November 2025 to seek refuge in a hotel located in the capital of Kwara State, Ilorin.

Gbenga Adelusi fled to avoid the Fulani bandits’ reprisal, which may have resulted in his torture to death, just like the fate that befell his biological mother. Gbenga Adelusi had been attempting to evade danger due to a fear of being threatened with death since then, but his whereabouts remained unknown at the time this report was filed.

Gbenga Adelusi’s sincere appeal to the Ireland government, as shared with BethNews Media, is for protection from refoulement, permission to stay in their territory, and access to decent treatment standards and a lasting solution.

Speaking briefly with Journalists after the emergency Executive meeting, the Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Woman Journalists (NAWOJ), Com. Sekinat Salam, said the meeting was necessary as the news of her suspension was laughable and insulting because it is like a pot calling a kettle black in this case, saying that the Leadership of the State Council, Com. Wale Olanrewaju has no local standing to suspend her or any executive member, even he cannot be a judge in his own case.

According to her” The Leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State led by Wale Olanrewaju has always been misusing power without recourse to the constitution of this noble Union, hence has no local standing to suspend me or any executive member “.

She said only the Central Working Committee (CWC) has the constitutional rights to sanction or suspend any members found wanting after due process has been followed.

While calling on members to stay calm, Com. Sekinat Salam assured members of positive representation of NAWOJ at both the State and National level, adding the success recorded under her administration cannot be overemphasized.

She therefore called on the National leadership of NUJ to critically look into the matter, either by setting up independent committee to investigate the issues and resolve the matter as quickly as possible.
