N15M TO STAY ALIVE, ‘NIGERIANS SHOULD PLEASE, SAVE ME’, TOLULOPE BEGS
KEHINDE Tolulope, a 21-year-old student of University of Ibadan (UI) is appealing to kind-hearted Nigerians, philanthropists, governments, corporate organisations, Non Governmental Organization (NGOs) and religious bodies, home and abroad for financial assistance to fund an urgent kidney transplant.
Tolulope, who is supposed to be a 200 level Agricultural science, UI, was diagnosed with End-Stage Kidney Failure in 2021 and currently undergoing dialysis every three days at General Hospital, Lagos at the cost of N30,5000 per session including the cost of drugs.
Tolulope’s health challenges began in 2020 when she noticed she had developed swollen feet.
She managed the condition until 2021 when her kidney functions failed completely.Appealing for support, Mr Gbenga Kehinde, Tolulope’s father, is imploring well-meaning and kind-hearted Nigerians, philanthropists, state governors, corporate organisations and Non-Governmental Organisations to intervene and donate generously s to enable his daughter to access the urgently needed kidney.
When The Message International got in touch with Tolupe, a couple of days back, one does not need to be told that the hitherto good looking and beautiful girl has reduced to shadow of her old self due to her deteriorating health condition that has run her parents down financially after having sold all they had laboured for in their entire lives to take care of their hailing daughter.
However, with their hope in God and medical advice from the doctor in charge, Tolupe will still regain her health and bounce back better and stronger if she gets the needed kidney transplant in time which can cost between N12m and N15m.
Tolulope whose future is so bright being a very brilliant girl and the best in the family academically is now appealing to all kind-hearted Nigerians, home and abroad to please come to her aid as chances are still there for her to survive if attended to urgently.
She spoke to us with tears rolling down her cheeks, narrating her ordeal in emotion-laden voice, begging for support, “My name is Kehinde Tolulope, I’m 21 years old a student of the university of Ibadan and a native of Ilesa in Osun state. It started in December 2020 when I started noticing my feet were swelling. I went to the hospital in January 2021, after series of tests I was diagonised of Lupus Nephritis. Then I was admitted for about 6 weeks during which I was undergoing blood transfusion and other treatments.
“After being discharged, I was placed on drugs and asked to come for checkup regularly and also to do regular kidney tests.
“In August, I took an injection each costing N250,000 and I took 3 doses on different days because according to the doctor it was a better option for healing since the drugs didn’t give results as expected.
“I was becoming better but suddenly in October, I was rushed back to the hospital by my dad and mum and was unconscious. By the time I became conscious, I was told that my kidney damage has progressed to end stage which signifies kidney failure. Then I was told that I need to do dialysis 3times weekly which cost 30,500 per session or to get the final solution which is kidney
transplant which costs 12 to 15 million in order to stay alive. Therefore, according to the doctor, my survival depends on constant dialysis or kidney transplant.
“I appeal to all well meaning Nigerians, governments, corporate organisations and religious groups to help me. I want to live. My parents have sold all the had worked for in their entire lives because of me. Please, help me. God Almighty will not abandon you all in times of your needs. Amen!”

NAWOJ: SEKINAT, CHARITY GETS VOTE OF CONFIDENCE
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists,(NAWOJ), Ogun State Chapter Executives has unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Chairman NAWOJ SEKINAT Salam and the Financial Secretary, Charity James, saying that, their leadership reflect the ideal and objectives of NAWOJ.
This was revealed in a communique issued at an Emergency meeting of the Executive held at the NUJ State Council, Iwe-Iroyin in Abeokuta.
The vote of confidence on the Leadership of NAWOJ was unanimously signed by all the five executive members that attended the meeting with the vice chairperson taking apology for official engagement outside the state capital.
According to the communique ” Consequently, NAWOJ Ogun State Chapter, reaffirms it’s unwavering support and confidence in the Chairperson and the Financial Secretary, Sekinat Salam and Charity James respectively, Urge them to continue in their commitment to purposeful leadership in the best interest of the association and the society at large”.
Speaking briefly with Journalists after the emergency Executive meeting, the Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Woman Journalists (NAWOJ), Com. Sekinat Salam, said the meeting was necessary as the news of her suspension was laughable and insulting because it is like a pot calling a kettle black in this case, saying that the Leadership of the State Council, Com. Wale Olanrewaju has no local standing to suspend her or any executive member, even he cannot be a judge in his own case.
According to her” The Leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State led by Wale Olanrewaju has always been misusing power without recourse to the constitution of this noble Union, hence has no local standing to suspend me or any executive member “.
She said only the Central Working Committee (CWC) has the constitutional rights to sanction or suspend any members found wanting after due process has been followed.
While calling on members to stay calm, Com. Sekinat Salam assured members of positive representation of NAWOJ at both the State and National level, adding the success recorded under her administration cannot be overemphasized.
She therefore called on the National leadership of NUJ to critically look into the matter, either by setting up independent committee to investigate the issues and resolve the matter as quickly as possible.
