Dasukigate: Metuh angrily tears confession statement made to EFCC

National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, reportedly tore a statement he made to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on his role in the $2.1 billion arms funds diversion.
Metuh, who is being detained by the EFCC, had earlier on Tuesday, released a statement where he admitted to receiving N400m from former President, Goodluck Jonathan.
Premium Times however, reports that Metuh tore the statement after it was presented to him by the investigating officer for endorsement- his signature.
A source was quoted to have revealed that: “Rather than sign the document, Metuh on realising the weight of his confession, seized the documents and proceeded to tear them.”
The report also stated that Metuh attempted to chew and swallow the document, but he was promptly prevented by EFCC operatives, who succeeded in recovering the torn pieces of paper.
Metuh’s attempt to destroy the document, which is an evidence in the case against him, is said to be a separate offence, which he could be charged with.
Another source was quoted to have said: “The tearing of statement is tantamount to willful destruction of government property and it is a serious offence,” the official said.
“Also the fact that he obstructed operatives from performing their job is also a criminal offence. We will explore the possibility of filling a separate charge against him at the Federal Capital Territory High Court.”
