Ogun Govt To Accommodate Additional 28,000 Students Enrolment In 2017

Ogun state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology says it is set to create capacity for increase in student enrolment to accommodate additional 28, 000 secondary school students through the provision of conducive learning environment and infrastructural facilities.

The Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Mrs. Modupe Mujota, stated this yesterday while defending the 2017 budget estimate of her ministry before members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation led by Hon. Akanbi Bankole.

Mujota said provision of additional infrastructure in public schools in the State would cater for the upsurge in school enrolment due to the success of the free education programme of the State Government.

She added that the ministry would also ensure full accreditation of educational programmes in all the nine public tertiary institutions and eight Government Science and Technical Colleges, assuring that government would continue to provide scholarship and bursary award for all students of the State origin in all tertiary institutions across the country next year.

To achieve the objective of the budget, the Ministry has proposed a total of N9.4bn, out of which N8.4bn would go for capital expenditure, while N1.05bn would take care of recurrent with N1.5bn being expected from internally generated revenue for the period.

A further breakdown of the budget revealed that a sum of N5.9bn was earmarked for the completion of the 15 model schools in the State, just as a total of 57 blocks of 4 classroom each had been proposed for rehabilitation for the period at the average rate of N4.3m each to cover the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas of the State.

Other agencies that defended their budget are the State Technical and Vocational Education Board, Bureau of Tertiary Institutions and the State Library Board.
