Police officers lynched in the wake of the violence instigated by the nationwide youth demonstration against police brutality will not die in vain, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, pledged.

The State Government, on Wednesday, directed Lagos State Scholarship Board to award scholarship to the children of the slain officers up to the university level.

The State Police Command bore huge loss in personnel, armoury and properties in the violence.

Twenty-nine Divisional Police Stations and 17 Police Posts were razed by hoodlums disguising as protesters. Also, six police officers were lynched, 36 critically injured, while 71 police operational vehicles were torched.

In spite of the loss, the police said they remained undeterred in performing their constitutional duties.

Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday, made the offer to take the bill of replacing the logistics lost by the police when he visited the Command Headquarters in Ikeja to boost the morale of officers, following the demoralising events of the past week in which police officers and their stations were targeted by hoodlums.

The Governor got the assurance of the police’s commitment to strengthen security across the State from the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu.

Sanwo-Olu said the statutory duties of the Police could not be wished away because of the actions of a few bad eggs, noting that the impact of the police officers’ absence on the roads was generally felt by residents.

He said the State must put the event of the past week behind it and move on to restore peace across the communities. To achieve this, police officers , he said, must regain their confidence.

He said: “Commissioner of Police has come forward with a number of requests, which we will need to address to boost the morale of officers after the last week’s event. As your Governor, I have come here to take full responsibility for the loss your have suffered in terms of logistics. From tomorrow (Thursday), we will start implementing these requests.

“Through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), we will be replacing the police operational vehicles burnt in the violence. We have bigger plan for all the police stations burnt down. We will look for the funds and build befitting stations that will set the standard of what police stations should be.

“The most important requests is to offer scholarship to the children of officers that died. I have directed the Lagos State Scholarship Board under the Special Adviser on Education to immediately award scholarship to the children of the slain officers.”

Sanwo-Olu said the State Government would also be compensating family members of the officers killed in the violence and take care of the burial arrangement of the slain officers, adding that the State would also be picking up the hospital bills of those injured in the mayhem.

Police officers serving in Lagos are also to get life insurance from the a State Government, Sanwo-Olu promised. The Governor directed the Executive Secretary of LSSTF, Dr. Rasaq Balogun, to establish the modality with the police leadership in the State.

The Governor also approved the request to upgrade Police Cottage Hospital in Ikeja, directing the Commissioner for Health to inspect the facility for the required upgrade.

In addition to donating two 150KVa generating set to the police, Sanwo-Olu said the Command Headquarters would be connected to the State’s Independent Power Project (IPP) for constant power supply.

He said: “The reform that you truly desire is starting today. The reform which the youths had clamoured for through the EndSARS protest is taking off and we will continue to engage the police on how to improve on what we have started. We will take up this cause with the objective to effect desired change and we will approach the high authorities for the requests that are not in our control.

“I will be leaving you with the thought that you all have responsibility to secure lives and properties. Your uniform is not for oppression; it is a symbol of dignity and discipline. You must protect the fundamental rights of all citizens without compromising ethics of your duty. It is only when you do this that the citizens would see that we have a Police that is truly responsible.”

Sanwo-Olu said the State would be championing the cause to improve citizen-police relationship to prevent re-occurrence of the issues that led to the EndSARS protest.

Odumosu said the manner with which the slain officers were murdered brought down morale in the Command. He said the police officers remained committed to their statutory responsibilities, thanking the Governor for approving their requests

The gesture, the police boss said, would restore confidence in the State’s police workforce.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police in charge of Research and Planning, Leye Oyebade, said the Police took away valuable lessons from the EndSARS protest, noting that there was no better time to fully implement the community policing than now.

He said the protest had ended and it was time for the police to win back citizens’ confidence and trust.

He said: “As police officers, we must now go back to the drawing board and cultivate the goodwill of the communities in which we operate. I’m particularly charging divisional police headquarters to devise strategies tailored toward your local realities and employ digital tools.”

Top police officers, who attended the meeting with the Governor, included the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of Zone II, Ahmed Ilyasu, all Deputy Commissioners of Police and all the 14 Area Commanders across the State.

Also, all the 110 officers in charge of all Divisional Police Stations and heads of the 56 Police Departments across the State.

Hon. Yakubu Kimba Leads Usman kadafur Delegation to Pay Sallah Homage and Condolences to Former Army Chief Buratai

A Life of Purpose: My 50-year Journey of Impact, Gratitude and Philanthropy – By Aare Adetola Olaniyi Emmanuelking

The 2nd of April holds a profound significance for me. This year marks a momentous milestone – my 50th birthday—a celebration of half a century filled with rich experiences and impactful contributions. In stark contrast to the jubilant celebrations of my 40th birthday, which saw the streets of Lagos alive with revelry, I have chosen a path of humility and gratitude to observe this occasion. I plan to reflect quietly on my journey and offer heartfelt thanks to my creator for the many blessings I have received.

My life story is truly remarkable. The inspiration for my thriving real estate business was born during a particularly challenging period—while I was recuperating in a hospital. It was then that I envisioned a venture that would transform the housing landscape in Nigeria and beyond. Today, that vision has flourished into a multi-billion-dollar conglomerate, and I have dedicated myself to providing affordable housing solutions. My work has significantly impacted the lives of countless individuals, turning the once homeless into proud homeowners. My innovative approaches have not only disrupted traditional real estate practices but have also inspired many others in the industry to explore similar pathways.

I remain profoundly grateful to my creator for enabling me to turn my lofty dreams into reality. I have focused my efforts on addressing the pressing issue of housing in Nigeria, crafting affordable home plans that have set a standard many in the industry have sought to emulate. As a trailblazer in the real estate sector, I have become known as the benchmark for real estate business success in Nigeria. Yet, I eschew lavish displays of wealth and grandeur. Rather than inviting praise from my admirers through elaborate festivities, I am instructing friends and associates to express gratitude on my behalf and to redirect their gifts toward charitable endeavors. This philosophy represents what I view as one of the greatest gifts I could receive for my birthday—bringing joy to those in need.

An embodiment of generosity and selflessness, I have intentionally opted against the extravagant celebrations common among billionaires. Instead, I encourage my community to focus their resources on philanthropy during this special time. For me, the opportunity to support and uplift the less fortunate embodies the true spirit of celebration.

In honour of my 50th birthday, I have planned a personal prayer service dedicated to me and my family, which will serve as a moment for reaffirming my commitment to a life devoted to serving God. My gratitude is especially poignant, given the challenges I have overcome. Adversity has met resilience on my journey, and I continuously witness the favour and protection of my creator, which empowers me to thrive despite life’s many obstacles.

Moving beyond personal reflection, I am also initiating plans for widespread communal betterment across Nigeria. I aim to donate substantial infrastructure improvements to underserved communities, making tangible contributions to enhance residents’ lives in significant ways. My commitment is symbolized by my pledge to commission 50 impactful projects nationwide, each representing a part of my dedication to fostering positive change and supporting community development.

While I have plans for a well-deserved retreat with my family beyond Nigeria’s borders, I remain grounded in my values and commitment to my community. As my 50th birthday unfolds, many are gathering to honour me in various ways, a testament to the profound influence I have had on their lives and the societal landscape.

In line with the wisdom of renowned playwright Professor Femi Osofisan, who insightfully noted that birthdays are not merely for the deceased, I truly appreciate the significance of this milestone, especially within a society where the average life expectancy is less than 50 years. I stand as a beacon of humility, gratitude, and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others.

Ultimately, as part of my ongoing legacy, I have made it clear that my 50th birthday celebration will revolve around positive societal contributions. Instead of indulging in extravagant expenditures for personal enjoyment, I prioritize investments that will uplift communities across Nigeria. I am determined to ensure that my milestone is marked by meaningful contributions rather than mere indulgence, reaffirming my role as both a property magnate and a dedicated servant to my country and its people.

In conclusion, I want to thank you all for your love, wishes, and prayers. May heaven celebrate you all, too. Amen. Happy 50th birthday 🎂 to me.

Buratai Lauds Emir of Biu for Bestowing ‘Sarkin Yaki’ Title on Gen Bulama Biu mini (Rtd)

His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Mustapha Umar Mustapha Aliyu II, CON, the Emir of Biu, has conferred the prestigious traditional title of ‘Sarkin Yaki Biu Emirate’ on Major General Bulama Biu mni (Rtd) in recognition of his immense contributions to security and peace in Borno State and Nigeria at large.

The Emir described General Bulama Biu as a fearless and patriotic son of the Emirate who played a critical role in the fight against Boko Haram, bringing stability to the region. “The people of Biu Emirate are proud of you as a very distinguished professional soldier,” the Emir declared.

Reacting to the honor, former Chief of Army Staff and Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai CFR, commended the Emir of Biu for recognizing the sacrifices and dedication of General Bulama Biu. He highlighted the retired general’s outstanding military service, particularly his leadership as GOC 7 Division and Commander Sector 3 MNJTF, where he exhibited remarkable bravery and tactical excellence.

“General Bulama Biu is a warrior whose contributions to national security will never be forgotten,” Buratai stated. “His military career was shaped by discipline, courage, and an unwavering commitment to defending Nigeria. This honor by the Emir of Biu is well-deserved, and I have no doubt that he will continue to serve the Emirate and the nation with distinction.”

Buratai further noted that General Bulama Biu follows in the footsteps of his late father, Major Bulama Biu MON, the first Regimental Sergeant Major of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), who was highly respected for his role in training generations of military officers.

Borno State Deputy Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, also congratulated General Bulama Biu, describing him as a fearless and pragmatic leader who won the admiration of his troops, security agencies, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF). “He was always in the bush, leading from the front, never backing down,” the deputy governor remarked.

The traditional turbanning ceremony for General Bulama Biu is set to take place on a date to be announced, as the people of Biu Emirate prepare to celebrate one of their own—a battle-tested soldier now honored as their ‘Sarkin Yaki’ (Warlord).
