Experts brainstorm On S*xual Abuse Of Minors

To tackle the ugly menace of sexual and child abuse which have grown in the country recently, the Tai Solarin University of Education ( TASUED), Ijebu Ode, Ogun State recently gathered experts to proffer solutions to the problem.

The ivory tower organised a training workshop in collaboration with the Advocate for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network ( ACVPN) on trauma focussed cognitive behavioral therapy treatment to tackle child sexual abuse among children in Nigeria.

 

 

 

Speaking at the occasion, Prof Oladipo Ekeuyo, who is the Director of Research, in TASUED gives insight to the training, saying that the trainees would be trained on how to handle cases of child abuse , sexual harassment would be treated carefully, adding that would enable the victims and traumatised to relate confidently with the psychological expects undergoing the training.

He explained that training workshop manual had 12 therapeutic modules, adding that the participants would be trained on ” short term attention span” known as absent mindedness, withdrawal sleep disorder, generalised anxiety, depression, low self esteem, behavioral and many other fields.

 

 

 

 

 

Oladipo said, ” When you gain the confidence of these survivors, make sure they build trust through the discussion and you will get to the root of their problems, try to remove negative talk from survivor with sweet words, then you can win their confidence.

“As a therapist, you ought to give them assurance on why things will work again. If possible change the environment for them, and get something that will make the survivors to relax,” he postulated.

 

 

 

 

The Don points to the fact that some children with low self esteem who isolate themselves from peer groups or immediate family members needed to be engaged them properly.

“Take them to a meaningful attraction center, with necessary support to improve their self esteem,” he stressed.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Speaking with pressmen, the Coordinator, Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network ( ACVPN) Mr Ebenezer Omejailile opined that it is time the society come out from the trauma either as a group or individuals, when the people see depressed victims.

” When we see this kind of of depressed people, mental challenged people.
We see them flaring up over little issue, possibly because of problems at home, work or other social gathering, that is why we brought this experts to this training,” he said.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Omejailile urged Nigerians not to flare up over little things due the economic situation in the country.

The expert said, ” Our vision is to reach out to all Nigerians because of the capacity of the people who came to facilitate the programme, it will help a lot people,” he stated.
