INEC Cancels Election In Kogi

Kogi Residents Protest, INEC Cancels Election In LGA As Officials Arrive Polling Units With Pre-Recorded Result Sheets.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has cancelled the election in 67 polling units in the Ogori-Magongo local government area of Kogi State.

The cancellation followed a serious protest by residents of the Magongo community over the written results on the result sheet while accreditation and voting had not commenced in the polling units.

A source who is monitoring the development told SaharaReporters that the election had been cancelled by INEC.

“The election here has been cancelled. The protest has made the INEC officials call off their staff. In all polling units in Ogori/Magongo local government.”

SaharaReporters reported earlier that residents of Magongo in the Ogori-Magongo local government area of Kogi State are protesting that results have been written on the result sheet while accreditation and voting are even yet to commence.

The residents who stormed at Magongo RAC centre expressed their displeased that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in collaboration with the officials of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had already written results of the various polling units in the local government even before the election had started despite all the promised of a free and fair election.

The pre-written results of some polling units SaharaReporters obtained showed that APC scored 120 votes while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) were allocated one vote each as their scores in the election that was yet to start.
