Kayode Fayemi Begs EFCC To Delay Money Laundering Probe Until After Tinubu’s Inauguration, PMB’ Book Launch
Sahara Weekly Reports That The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited former Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti for questioning regarding money laundering allegations. In a letter dated May 12, the EFCC requested that Mr Fayemi appear before its zonal command office in Kwara on May 18.
However, Mr Fayemi has stated that he will not be able to honor the invitation on that day because he is preparing for a public presentation and book launch in honor of President Muhammadu Buhari. He mentioned that he had already committed to other programs between May 19 and 24 before receiving the invitation.
In response to the EFCC’s invitation, Mr Fayemi’s lawyer conveyed that his client would not be able to attend on May 18 due to the prior engagement. The lawyer explained that Mr Fayemi is involved in organizing the book launch and reviewing one of the books, titled “State of Repair: How President Muhammad Buhari Tried to Change Nigeria For Good” by Anthony Goldman and “The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari” by Abu Ibrahim, scheduled for May 19 at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja.
Mr Fayemi’s lawyer requested an adjournment of the invitation to May 30, 2023, after the inauguration of President-elect Bola Tinubu, who is set to be sworn in as president on May 29. The lawyer expressed hope for a positive response from the EFCC.
It’s worth noting that Mr Fayemi served as the governor of Ekiti from 2010 to 2014 and 2018 to 2022. He is considered an ally of Mr Tinubu. The invitation from the EFCC follows his predecessor, Ayodele Fayose, facing an amended 11-count money laundering charge by the commission.
