SANWO-OLU MEETS SECURITY CHIEFS, PROMISES TO REVAMP STATE SECURITY ARCHITECTURE

There will be an overhaul of the security architecture of Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has revealed, after an emergency security meeting with chiefs of security agencies on Monday in his office.

The aim, the governor said, is to address the emerging security challenges facing the state, noting that re-organisation of the state’s security template was necessary in order to make the state safe for business and living.

The Governor, who briefed the press at the end of the meeting alongside commanders of security formations and top government functionaries in the State, said security agencies had been placed on alert in preparation for the development. He added that the reform would lead to a new engagement for security operatives and help in achieving efficiency in combating crimes.

He said: “We are just coming out of a security meeting and I wish to assure Lagosians that issues that bother on contemporary security challenges, including cultism, kidnapping, armed robbery, pipeline vandalism and indiscriminate driving against traffic were at the top of discussion.”

“We are going to revamp our security architecture. All our security formations have been briefed and they are well situated and well informed at keeping Lagos safe and secured.”

Sanwo-Olu said all the security agencies had briefed him about their respective strategies that would help in the revamping, adding that the security re-organisation would be unveiled soon.

The Governor pleaded for cooperation from residents when the security plan is rolled out, noting: “Making Lagos safe is our daily responsibility and all residents must also take up the challenge. I assure that we would begin to see a new deal in security which will further improve safety of lives and property”

“I assure every resident that we are on track. There were few things that we asked ourselves to go and do. There are a few details we are still going to pronounce later.”

The Governor said the security overhaul would also focus on activities of Okada riders and road regulations. He stressed that his government would embark on advocacy on the existing restriction laws for motorcycles.

He said: “That’s one of the things we have agreed to do. So, we will be embarking on a lot of advocacy on all media of communications to tell people about traffic and restriction laws. We don’t want to be making arrest without reminding ourselves of the right things to do and how to do it. It is when we have done that and some of us refuse to be compliant that the full wrath of the law would be applied.”

Bye-Elections: APC Group Hails Deputy Senate President Barau for Kano Landslide Victory, Transformative Leadership

The APC Vanguard has hailed Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin for orchestrating a resounding victory in the Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency bye-election, cementing his status as the preeminent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.

In a press statement signed by President Comrade Dan Yusuf, the group praised Barau’s “unparalleled political mastery, visionary stewardship, and relentless dedication,” which secured a landslide win for APC candidate Garba Ya’u Gwarmai.

Recall that the APC candidate clinched 31,472 votes against the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) Yusuf Ali Maigado, who polled 27,931 votes, as declared by INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Muhammad Waziri of Bayero University.

Since assuming the role of Deputy Senate President, the highest-ranking official from Kano, the group said Barau has transformed the state’s political landscape, drawing thousands of rival supporters and leaders from the ruling NNPP and other political parties.

The Vanguard emphasised that this wave of defections is not mere politicking but proof of Barau’s “exceptional performance, magnetic leadership, and ability to inspire trust and unity across divides.”

“Barau’s strategic brilliance has dismantled the NNPP’s entrenched political machinery, proving that the APC, under his guidance, is an unstoppable force,” Yusuf added.

“This emphatic victory underscores Senator Barau’s ability to galvanise grassroots support, as evidenced by the massive turnout at the electrifying campaign rally he led in Kano North Senatorial District.

“His message of progress, unity, and alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s transformative agenda resonated powerfully, mobilising voters and redefining the state’s political dynamics.

“Senator Barau’s leadership transcends electoral success; it is a movement that has sparked a wave of defections, with thousands of opposition supporters and leaders joining the APC, inspired by his track record of integrity, delivery, and inclusive governance.

“His ability to unite diverse stakeholders and convert rivals into allies highlights his exceptional statesmanship, making him a beacon of hope for Kano and Nigeria at large.”

The group noted that Barau’s leadership transcends electoral success, describing it as a movement driven by integrity, inclusive governance, and a commitment to progress, security, and prosperity.

According to Danladi, his ability to convert opposition figures into APC allies has positioned him as a beacon of hope for Kano and Nigeria, setting a strong foundation for the party’s ambitions in the 2027 general elections.

“We applaud INEC for upholding transparency and credibility in the electoral process, ensuring the people’s will prevailed despite challenges,” Yusuf stated.

“The APC Vanguard calls on all members, supporters, and Nigerians to rally behind Senator Barau’s dynamic leadership as we build toward a sweeping victory in 2027.

“His superlative performance has solidified Kano as an APC stronghold, setting the stage for the party to dominate the national political landscape.

“Let this historic win serve as a clarion call to all Nigerians: with leaders like Senator Barau steering the APC, we are forging a future of unity, development, and unparalleled progress.

“The APC Vanguard stands firmly behind our Deputy Senate President, confident that his transformative leadership will continue to inspire and deliver for Kano, the North, and the entire nation.”

Zamfara: Matawalle’s Former Adviser Defeats Governor Dauda Lawal’s PDP in Resounding Bye-Election Victory

Bye-Election: Stop Gov Lawal, Aides’ Assault on Zamfara’s Democracy - Group Tells INEC, Security Operatives

Zamfara: Matawalle’s Former Adviser Defeats Governor Dauda Lawal’s PDP in Resounding Bye-Election Victory

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Kamilu Sa’idu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Kaura-Namoda South State Constituency bye-election, delivering a crushing blow to Governor Dauda Lawal’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Returning Officer, Lawal Sa’adu of the Federal University Gusau, announced that Sa’idu polled 1,181 votes in the supplementary election, defeating PDP’s Muhammad Lawal Kurya, who scored 194 votes.

Across the constituency, the APC secured 8,182 votes, while the PDP managed 5,544.

“Kamilu Sa’idu of the APC, having scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Sa’adu stated.

The supplementary election, conducted in Sakajiki (two polling units) and Kyambarawa (three polling units), followed an inconclusive by-election last Saturday at the Kasuwar Daji collation center.

The rerun was necessitated as the initial margin of 1,662 votes between the leading candidates was less than the 3,265 Permanent Voter Cards collected in the affected polling units.

Sa’idu, a former Special Adviser to ex-Governor Bello Matawalle, will now represent Kaura-Namoda South in the Zamfara State House of Assembly.

His victory is seen as a direct rebuke of Governor Lawal’s administration, which has been plagued by allegations of incompetence and escalating insecurity since 2023.

Despite Lawal’s claims of a guaranteed PDP victory, the results exposed his administration’s waning influence.

Reports indicate that Lawal deployed state-backed Zamfara Vigilante operatives to polling units, defying federal warnings against such tactics.

These efforts to intimidate voters and manipulate the process were resoundingly rejected by the electorate, who delivered a decisive mandate to the APC.

Lawal’s last-ditch campaign efforts, including two weeks of intense mobilization and accusations against the APC and his predecessors, fell flat.

The bye-election marks a historic low for Lawal, the first Zamfara governor to lose a bye-election, with the PDP securing only six wards.

APC Group Slams Defence Minister Badaru Over Bye-Election Loss, Demands Resignation

Bye-Elections: APC Group Hails Deputy Senate President Barau for Kano Landslide Victory, Transformative Leadership

APC Group Slams Defence Minister Badaru Over Bye-Election Loss, Demands Resignation

The Concerned Jigawa APC Forum (CJAF) has issued a scathing rebuke of the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, branding his performance in the recent Garki-Babura Federal Constituency bye-election as a “catastrophic political failure” and a threat to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

In a strongly worded press statement, the group demanded Badaru’s immediate resignation, citing his inability to secure votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his home polling unit and ward as evidence of his dwindling political influence.

The bye-election, held on August 17, 2025, saw the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deliver a stunning defeat to the APC at Badaru’s polling unit (001) in Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School, Jigawa State, with the PDP securing 308 votes to the APC’s 112.

The loss extended to Badaru’s ward, where the PDP also dominated at the polling unit of his ally, Minister of State for Education, Mrs. Suwaiba Ahmad, winning 184 votes to the APC’s 22.

The CJAF highlighted reports of Badaru’s supposed allies celebrating the PDP’s victories, raising concerns about disloyalty within his camp and suggesting active sabotage against the APC.

“After eight years as Jigawa’s governor and two years as a federal minister, Badaru’s inability to deliver for the APC in his home base exposes him as a political liability,” said Alhaji Usman Tanko, President of the CJAF.

“His allies’ jubilation over PDP wins confirms he is no longer on the ground in Jigawa, and his continued presence in the cabinet risks dragging President Tinubu’s administration into disrepute.”

Despite the APC’s overall victory in the constituency, with candidate Mukhtar Rabi’u Garki securing 38,449 votes against the PDP’s 13,519, the CJAF credited Governor Umar Namadi’s effective governance and grassroots support for salvaging the win.

The group’s statement warned that Badaru’s failure in a key APC stronghold like Jigawa signals a dangerous erosion of support in the North West, a critical region for the party’s national ambitions.

The CJAF passed a vote of no confidence in Badaru, declaring him unfit to represent the APC or hold high office.

“Badaru’s collapse in a stronghold like Jigawa signals a dangerous erosion of APC support in the North West, a critical region for the party’s national ambitions,” Tanko added.

“His continued presence in the cabinet risks dragging the Tinubu administration into further disrepute, as his allies’ flirtations with the PDP threaten to fracture party unity.

“We demand that Badaru resign immediately as Minister of Defence. His abysmal track record and inability to add value to the APC in Jigawa, the North West, or nationally make his position untenable.

“While he may maintain a personal friendship with Mr. President, Nigeria’s interests supersede any individual’s ambitions. The country is bigger than Badaru, and it is time for him to step aside and allow fresh, capable leadership to bolster the APC’s prospects.

“His resignation is not just a necessity for Jigawa but a critical step to safeguard the party’s chances in 2027.

“We commend Governor Namadi for his steadfast leadership and urge INEC to maintain the integrity of the electoral process, as demonstrated in the peaceful and transparent conduct of the bye-election.

“The people of Jigawa have spoken, and their rejection of Badaru’s influence is a clarion call for accountability. The APC must act decisively to restore trust and secure its future, both in Jigawa and across Nigeria.”
